Description Ravens have long been known as the Warrior bird. I decided to practice a bit with lighting. I hope I got it right. D:

PS Ravens are awesome!

OOOoooh.... I like this one quite a bit. Very moody. Your manga reading is showing, by the way

You did not "get it right." The proportions are wrong and the lighting is lifeless. The colours and emotion could use work, too. Pour in another few hours and see if you can refine it.

I don't feel like it :3

My lighting has always been pretty off :<

And I've only been doing digital art for two and a half months

Then stop critiquing advanced artists. And citing "newbiness" (only two and a half months) is a cop-out. Have a nice day.

I've been studying art for three years officially, not including the self teaching that has gone on for over a decade, thank you very much. Do you have a problem with that?

I'm not a bragger usually. But I can say that I progress faster in art than most people.

I've also had three years formally (in a generic public art class) and a few more self-instructed. It's pretty safe to say that I advance more quickly than you, so just calm yourself down. You're not very far along for TEN YEARS of study. I know people who have studied for two years and are far more advanced than yourself. If you'd like to keep challenging me, feel free to do it as a note or on my page, as I wouldn't like to muck up your deviation comments too much.

I've only started digital art two and half months ago with no prior training. :/ All my good pieces are not photographed.

I take private lessons from a really good teacher. Believe me, there are quite a lot of really freakishly good artists in China. To the point that their drawings look even more photographic.

Formally I've only had three. =A= The rest were all attempts to mimic manga artists. And I'm not as old as you? I'm probably waaay younger.

If you cannot see proportions correctly, then don't judge. BTW, the picture's left arm is off if you've noticed or not. So is the blade.

How old are you? I'm seventeen. I go to a public school without an arts focus. I don't take private lessons. I've had three years of lessons as well, and when I say lessons, I mean lessons in a room with thirty other kids who need more help than me. All I know is self taught, and Art class for me is just doing assignments and receiving a final portfolio mark.

The good artists are not necessarily located in China. They are spread all over the world. I know there are ALWAYS better artists out there, but as you keep evading the topic, you are not one of them. To put it blatantly, you don't just need practice in observation (colours, form, light) but you need to work a lot harder on your art. Seriously, I'm happy to be wrong if you photograph a recent piece and show me. But right now you're all words.

I'm sixteen this year. :3

China has skillful artists. I know Europe has some, and so does America.

Browsing through your artwork. If I were you and talking to you, I'd say, improve on your technique in sketching before telling me I'm not a good artist. :<

It just so happens that I attempt to improve, so I improve at a rapid rate. Whenever I'm in a public school art class, I generally work alone and on independent projects since my skills are already better than all the other kids.

I work hard as hell. Don't insult a person's effort. Frankly, I'd be surprised if you could progress just as fast on three years of formal teaching. I can get a photo graph of my current piece in a few weeks, once it's done.

I don't post sketches online. The closes thing I have is speedpaintings (which are not the same) or my recent Jack Sparrow mini. What do you mean by "improve?"

I'm not insulting your effort, I'm just saying that your work is of amateur grade and that anybody can draw better with serious effort. My Aragorn piece was a serious jump up in quality because I decided that I wanted to be better. That was basically me learning to draw from reference in a few hours.

You just need to try. You may say you're trying, but with serious dedication, immediate photorealism is achievable with enough time to work on the piece. It's in the effort. And it's clear that you don't even attempt realism in your digital work. So what if it's been one month? It takes the same set of skills as traditional painting. I have ALL of my paintings online, including the first one I ever did.

I do attempt realism with digital artwork. But I'm doing it in steps. Currently I have a lot of WIP. So sorry if I'm not posting any uber dramatically awesome pieces. =A=

If you want photorealism, have it. I have a friend who's my age that draws really photographic.

No, it does not take the same set of skills as traditional painting to paint something digitally. I have another friend that does digital art. However, her digital paintings are not even a small percentage close to her oil paintings.

In the art world, you not only have to have skill, you need creativity that makes you different.

I don't need to.

PS All the artwork you've been looking at are half year old, which is long enough for my abilities to improve. Just saying.
