Description This one is a holiday request/collaboration between myself and the awesome Shiki-RynN.

It did have my normal lush colors, but it looked better once i added some digital bleach.

Lines: Shiki-RynN

I normally try not to abash myself by admitting that I like female characters of this type, but what the hell. You did an excellent job with her. She looks really sexy.

P.S. Whose character is this? I love anything fish/amphibian/maritime inspired.

She belongs to

I met her in real life a few times!

Shiki-RynN, not the amphibian.

I've got to admit, I usually pay more attention to pose, composition, and facial expression/body language than color, but I made myself really focus on your work in this piece, stepping out of my usual critical comfort zone, and I have to say you've really put a lot of meat on this piece. The textures add a lot of heft, and in places make me think of watercolors on a high-weight paper, with the lines like ink pen done in after the colors. Really interesting techniques, I'm enjoying the soft colors bleeding into each other.

My resident art expert notes that those scales should be having some kind of reaction with the light source, if their texture is at all different from her skin, but given that each scale would need its own highlights in that case, it's totally understandable why you opted for sanity over trifling detail.

Jah, i wanted it to look pulpy, a bit like an old monster comic. SEE THE SCALE GIRL OF LOST LAGOON!

I did start shading the scales, but she started to look a bit like a pizza.

"Pizza Girl" creates a completely different monster vibe than "Lagoon Girl."

It's a swimming fishperson.

Well, it was a second character that Shiki-RynN drew. Thing is, i've been drawing so many sequences where characters stand right next to each other, as if in line. So i wanted to do something a bit different with her.

Very nice. I like how you imply a transformation with the fully finned girl in shadow. I guess you turned the two into one? Or are you going to do the finned girl later?

Chronorin In reply to MartmeisterPaladin [2011-12-05 17:08:35 +0000 UTC]

I just really, really like cold and misty places. Just last night, i had a dream that i was trying to find my way into this tall, fog-bound hotel so i could see the view from it.

I heard... you guys have a lot of that going on in the UK. I want some of that action.

MartmeisterPaladin In reply to Chronorin [2011-12-05 17:22:58 +0000 UTC]

Fair enough.

Not as much as you'd think. We sometimes have that, but it can also be surprisingly warm. But yeah, it does get like that. Too bad it doesn't snow very often, although the panic the country goes into when it does is just plain embarrassing.

Chronorin In reply to MartmeisterPaladin [2011-12-05 17:42:22 +0000 UTC]

Ha!

People in my state do that. To the south of us, there is no snow. To the north of us, there is a lot of snow so people are used to it. But here... we get snow sometimes. And people LOSE their MINDS.

It's sad and funny.
