worn for good luck
miraculous magic-
acts: rabbits finagled
from hats—anything
to keep me from fleeing.
I dare not ask what
the magician would do
if his prop ever refused to
materialize. Instead, ensure
that the rabbits of my eyes
are gray, steely and unyielding;
verify that they dart from your face
at all of the right times
primal, primed for sight.
