Load the x file and then go to the frame you won't it to show on. Be sure the effect is showing by clicking the show button. You can go before that and click the show button off to it not too show there. when you want it to stop showing do the same but backwards.
If you want it to show at a certain point in a video have it off at the beginning then do the beffore.
