Id give you the "use a tripod,make the models hold their breath" lecture, but im sure you already know all that Other good ideas for long exposures are use a flashlight (maybe with a color gel) to pick out and paint on the models, or equally awesome, throw water on them, since the running water effect is so great, you get the added benefit of the models giving you the "you want me to do WHAT now" line.
