This is beautiful! Every little detail - the raven on the rock, the steam coming from the kettle, the mouse's knee-length pants (sorry, I don't know what the proper term is) and drooping snout - leaves the painting overflowing with character!

i was wondering, when you use inks, what kind do you use? i've tried WC and ink before, but ... maybe its the kind of ink i used.. it always seemed to get washed out when i applied the paint... and depending on what i was doing, i would get a neat shadowy effect, or it would completely ruin the painting.... i thought maybe i wasnt waiting long enough for the ink to dry... but... i dunno.. it still seems to smudge.
btw, i was inking the old fashioned way.... the old OLD fashioned way... with a quill and inkpot (at the time i didnt have actual pens, or even a decent nib.. i was using the Quill someone sent me as a souvinier from England)

I do too use a quill and inkpot, but with water resistant ink. It contains lac and tends to dry terribly fast, so that it sticks to your quill and you have to wash it off from time to time while you paint. But it will not get washed out, no matter how much water you use

The somber colors you chose are perfect for the background! Very believable colors I mean. Looove the trees and well, all of it.

This one makes me a little sad. It looks cold and the mouse looks old and tired. *sigh*

Oh I must say I love this so much! Really!
I love the colours, they are drop dead amazing... something to go all stary eyed over!
I love the fact that he is carrying a tea pot home. Must want to make some tea when he gets home to relax him a little; he looks all worn out and tired
Fave!

aw... i'm listening to a sad song by a french jewish chanson (chanteuse?) named Timna Brauer, and the music just fits the mood of this lovely, emotional work so well. wish it could play for other people as they view it

Ah wonderful! Is he english because that pottery just screams Earl Grey tea. XD
Or perhaps Lady grey for the afternoon, lol. Eitherway at least he has a nice cuppa waiting at the end of his journey. ^_^

He's very cute!
I wonder if you use any references for the old clothes? I was looking for some vintage clothing informations, but couldn't find much...

If you need clothing references of any period, I recommend `the chronicle of western costume` by John Peacock. It contains illustrations of fashion from the ancient civilizationes up to the twentieth century.

There's such a nice feeling about this picture! Calm and country. I especially like your choice of trees, they're very natural and not what trees usually look like when people paint a scene. Brava!
