**EXCERPT FROM MY STORY**
“Welcome back to LA!” I exclaim, trying to keep my enthusiasm to a minimum.
  “Thanks! Gosh it feels like forever.”

    He brings me in for a hug, which is not as awkward as the first time. The same cologne permeates my sinuses but it is masked by something heavier and less seductive.   I peer over his shoulder to see if the source is coming from elsewhere—it only us in the parking lot. Even after we pull away, I lean in to take a subtle whiff trying to satisfy my curiosity. He takes off his leather jacket and the musky scent is amplified, burning my nostrils.

    “You smoke?” I suddenly ask.

    Forever young, I wanna be…forever young…

    He turns off the tune on his phone until all we hear are the chirping of crickets. The brunette runs his fingers through his hair and admits, “Yeah, it’s hard to kick the habit when it helps me destress. I used to smoke weed all the time too, but I nipped that in the bud after realizing it hinders my productivity.”

    “What are you stressed about? You just came back from a mini vacation.”
He laughs it off as usual, claiming he gets random bursts of stress even when nothing in particular is hovering over his head. Somehow I find his overly casual attitude hard to believe.
