Zero: So, uh... we’re not gonna make a ‘hahaha RWBY won something’ joke, right? Cuz that would just be lazy. Cin: No. While it is true that with Adult Gon, Gon would have a significant advantage. Gon had to be at the point of complete mental collapse to even access it. It does not work like a traditional super form, as we’ve said before. Zero: So where does that put Gon? Well, there’s a lot of feats above City Block level in Hunter x Hunter, so... Cin: Killua survived an explosion that was calculated to be around 26 tons of TNT, or City Block level, to put it more simply. Zero: Due to characters in RWBY damaging the Atlesian Colossus multiple times (including a bullet from Ruby herself which shook it), which caused an earthquake that is equal to 96 tons of TNT, Ruby’s a bit higher on the totem pole. However, there’s several feats for Hunter x Hunter that get into the MCB range. Cin: Bonolenov, one of the weakest members of the Phantom Troupe, created a crater that was calculated to be Multi-City Block+, more specifically 145 tons. Theoretically, because it has been claimed Godspeed Killua wasn’t fazed by the thought of fighting Ilumi, his brother who later joined the Phantom Troupe and should be comparable to the Troupe and Hisoka, who fought Chrollo (who has another MCB+ feat) and gave him trouble, he should be MCB, right? Well, no, not really. Zero: Firstly, Illumi is a Manipulator. His Nen abilities revolve around controlling people rather than direct contact. As such, there’s no proof Illumi is comparable to the rest of the Troupe in physical strength, but his abilities make it worth him having around. We know that you don’t have to be physically strong to join the Troupe either necessarily as Shizuku is fairly physically weak compared to the rest of the group, even losing to Gon in an arm-wrestling match in the Yorknew Arc. Secondly, we couldn’t find any proof that Godspeed Killua ever actually said that. Cin: While you can argue that Gon is comparable to Kurapika, there is no proof for this. Even then, Kurapika, who managed to kill Uvogin, the physically strongest Phantom Troupe member, only managed to do so because of hax. His chains were specifically designed to be unbreakable only to Phantom Troupe members which is how the abilities worked in the first place. That and Judgement Chain directly phases through your body and crushes your heart. So really, Kurapika doesn’t scale to MCB either. Zero: Even if you were to give the benefit of the doubt of Phantom Troupe scaling, Death Battle did this calculation of Weiss creating ice. Heh, that rhymed. This got 112 tons of TNT, which isn’t much lower than Bonolenov’s calc and Ruby had enough advantages to close the gap in strength. Cin: However, there is a town level calc for a fodder ant in the Chimera Ant arc. This would apply to Killua and Gon, right? Well yes, but it’s not really that applicable scaling wise. It causes too many inconsistencies in power to be used. It would put Killua well above Menthuthuyoupi, who claimed that even Killua in Godspeed was only 10% of his power. If we were to give this to Gon, we would also have to give Ruby equally iffy scaling to Cinder via Neo. Cinder scales to Raven who created a storm (who pretended it was Vernal) which is likely in a similar ballpark. There’s even a town level calc for the Atlesian Colossus which Ruby could scale to. Zero: With that out of the way, why does Ruby beat Gon? Well for a start, she’s faster. Gon has been calculated to be Hypersonic+ via sending a Chimera Ant all the way to NGL from East Gorteau with a punch. While RWBY characters can dodge lightning, so they’re Massively Hypersonic. It should also be mentioned that the East Gorteau feat may not be as impressive as it sounds. It doesn’t actually scale to Gon’s speed as he just punched the Ant, he never actually followed it or kept up with it. Not to mention that her Semblance is literally based on speed, her quick bursts of speed would easily be enough to beat Gon, there’s proof for this in canon, too. Like when Gon fought Hollow and Bat and was completely outmatched by Bat’s speed and only managed to win the fight by disrupting the connection between the two. Furthermore, since the Hypersonic+ feat isn’t applicable, the second-best feat is that Gon is stated to be able to move faster than the human eye can comprehend multiple times. Even if we were to discard the MHS feats, there’s multiple bullet-dodging feats in RWBY that are faster than that. Such as Emerald dodging minigun fire. Cin: It also should be noted that Hunter x Hunter has struggled with bullets. Mafiosos in Yorknew couldn’t dodge bullets and neither could Ponzu, who was skilled enough to finish the Hunter Exam. Now, it can be argued that Gon could overcome the speed gap by being able to sense Ruby’s presence. Now, to some extent, this could be true. Gon has shown himself to be an adept strategist. But to say that he would be able to outsmart Ruby would be a grave misjustice to her. Ruby has shown herself to be even more of an adept strategist, having better ideas than even seasoned Huntsmen like Qrow. Zero: Wow seasoned Huntsmen? Did they put some salt and pepper on him? Zero: RWBY Aura and Hunter x Hunter Aura are extremely similar in a lot of ways. However, despite these similarities, one major difference prevents Gon from being able to sense Ruby. Aura in Hunter x Hunter’s universe comes is life energy, while aura in RWBY’s world comes from the soul. Hunter x Hunter’s aura comes from pours on your body known as Aura nodes. Zetsu, a technique of Nen involves sealing these nodes in order to prevent someone from discovering your Aura. Since Ruby wouldn’t have any of these nodes or any actual Aura that Gon can sense, Gon wouldn’t be able to know where she is. Cin: The differences between Hunter x Hunter and RWBY’s aura also helps Ruby even more. Her aura can heal minor wounds, which is a big help while Gon’s aura can do nothing of the sort. Another difference is that you have to actively defend yourself with your aura in Hunter x Hunter, with only master Enhancers, something that Gon clearly isn’t, having a strong enough aura to defend against things like explosions without having to actively defend. On the other hand, Huntress and Huntsman in the RWBY world always subconsciously have a protective layer of Aura around them. Zero: Keep in mind, since Ruby outclasses Gon in speed, this means that Gon would be completely unable to defend with Nen, even if he was physically more durable. Without Nen he would be on the level of a peak human being, much lower than Ruby. Cin: Not to mention while Gon had three main attacks with Jajanken: rock, paper and scissors, Ruby’s dust bullets gives her more reliable offensive options. Especially as paper and scissors are weak compared to rock, due to Gon being an Enhancer and those being different techniques. Zero: In terms of everyone’s favourite, experience. Once again, Ruby outmatches Gon. Compare their win-loss record. Gon couldn’t beat Knuckle Bine, who is a skilled Hunter, but nowhere near one of the best. Ruby, on the other hand, has beaten tons of massive Grimm, a giant robot made by the best military in the world, cut off the tail of an extremely dangerous scorpion man named Tyrian, etc. Of course, experience doesn’t matter that much, but you get the point. But overall, Gon couldn’t outlast Ruby’s strength, speed, better offensive options and a better aura. Looks like Freecss is Gon with the wind. Gon is able to transform into Adult Gon without being pushed to the point of metal break in many video games, however, these are usually games like Jump Force, which differ too much from their source material to be used. While Full-Powered Jajanken would’ve likely killed Morel, that does not mean much in the grand scheme of things. Morel was manhandled by Youpi and only managed to hit one solid hit on Pouf, meaning that he doesn’t scale to any MCB feats. While Ruby has control over her Silver Eyes by the end of Volume 6, this cannot be argued for a win. Silver Eyes specifically only hurt Grimm. Even if Ruby were to use her Silver Eyes on Gon, it would have no effect as he is not a Grimm. While it can be argued that Gon also scales to Hisoka due to their fight in the Heavens Arena arc, Hisoka says himself that he could’ve killed Gon any time he wanted to. While Kurapika did slightly hurt Chrollo with his punch, Chrollo immediately laughs it off and could not defend against the punch using Nen. Therefore, it is not accurate to say that Kurapika scales to Chrollo’s MCB+ feat via a punch that likely would not even hurt Chrollo if he could have used Nen. However, a more solid argument can be made for Kurapika scaling to Uvogin. There is also no direct proof that Gon is comparable to Kurapika. In Hunter x Hunter: Phantom Rogue, Gon survives hits from the Soul Doll version of Uvogin and Illumi. However, these soul dolls are implied to be weaker than the originals by the Phantom Troupe. It should also be mentioned that Phantom Rogue is largely considered non-canonical due to it being an anime exclusive movie not written by Yoshihiro Togashi, never being referenced as canon and not fitting into the timeline. Similarly, Hunter x Hunter: The Last Mission has Gon fighting alongside Chairman Netero against Jed, a man who rivals his power. For the same reasons (sans the place in the timeline argument) this film is likely non-canonical, therefore, it would be impossible to scale Gon to Netero. For the same reason, we can’t give Gon On even if he is theoretically able to access it at any time and it wouldn’t change much. It should be mentioned that even scaling Gon to Netero would not gain much in terms of results. It’s heavily implied that Netero is below the Royal Guard in the Chimera Ant arc, including by impartial sources like Killua. Hundreds of his strongest attacks were only enough for Meruem to feel a dull pain. He needed The Poor Man’s Rose in order to kill him (which failed) and therefore scaling is hardly applicable. In the Hunter x Hunter 1999 anime, Gon fights Illumi at the end of the Hunter Exam arc. While this alone is not proof of scaling (as Gon was Nen-less and Illumi was likely holding back), even if it was, this fight never happens in the manga meaning it cannot be used. Scaling Gon to Chimera Ant arc Killua is actually not as clear cut as it may seem. Multiple statements in the Chimera Ant arc imply that Killua is above Gon as Killua is more focused on his training. However, for the sake of argument and as the gap should not be too far between them, we will scale Gon to Chimera Ant arc Killua. Chimera Ant arc Killua manages to hurt Menthuthuyoupi (who has a multi-city block+ feat) with a lightning bolt and in Godspeed. This is because the lightning bolt and Godspeed outspeed Youpi, meaning he can’t block with Nen. Youpi says himself that Killua is only around 10 per cent of his power and he immediately heals the damage done to him. There is also no proof that Gon scales to Godspeed Killua, especially as it massively increases his performance. It should be noted that the calculation available for the NGL punching feat also uses the African continent for distance despite NGL being in a flipped version of North America, specifically in the islands of Northern Canada. There are multiple differences between aura in RWBY and aura in HxH. Aura in RWBY is the manifestation of your soul, while aura in HxH is life energy. Semblances and Hatsu have similar concepts, but you cannot choose your Semblance like you can your Hatsu. During the Chimera Ant arc, it was shown that sniper bullets were hard for Killua to deal with, as he did not know where there was coming from. This was also because of his inexperience with En. As Ruby’s bullets are not made of Nen, this would likely apply to Gon, too. to defend with Nen. There is likely more than one lightning dodging feat in RWBY. Grimm’s electric attacks are described as ‘lightning’ by official RoosterTeeth subtitles. Blake and Sun dodge lightning from a Grimm in volume 4. Keep in mind that this is likely akin to the real thing as the only beings that can use magic in the world of RWBY are Ozpin, Salem and the four Maidens.
A familiar sight filled the skies of Remnant. Airships. They weren’t particularly uncommon. But today, they were most uncommon. They were carrying tourists from ‘beyond the known world’ but to the tourists, this was the strange, undiscovered place. Around the area commonly referred to as the ‘Dark Continent,’ there was another lake with another patch of continents in it, much like the ‘world’, the two boys on the airship had come from. Strangely, from this part of the world, the moon looked cracked…
“Killua! Look!” excitedly shouted one of the boys, pointing out the windows of the airship. “It’s so green! And they have technology just like us!” he pointed at the sophisticated architecture and the people wearing clothes people wore in the cities of the world they themselves had come from. This place was much different from how they thought it would be. It wasn’t backwards and untamed, there were people and cities and technology. “Whoa!” the other boy responded, his hands pressed to the windows. “Hey, Killua...” Gon began, looking at his friend, “If they’re not backwards like the rest of the Continent, why haven’t we heard from them before?”
“I guess people just hadn’t explored the Dark Continent enough...” Killua ambiguously stated, looking down at the forests they were now passing over. “Actually, you’re right. If their technology is so great, why didn’t they communicate with us?” he wondered, knowing that Gon wouldn’t care enough about international politics to respond. “Hey, Gon!” Killua began again, his tone picking back up and more excitement in his voice. “Have you ever heard about the creatures of Grimm?”
“The creatures of... Grimm? No, I haven’t, what’re they?” Curiosity peaked in Gon’s eyes as he asked the question. “I think they’re monsters. No one knows where they come from. But they love destruction. They’re attracted to human suffering and displeasure. They come in all shapes and sizes. Birds. Bears. Dragons. Things that look like something out of a giant monster movie. There’s all different types of them,” explained Killua, rambling as Gon tried to imagine what they would look like.
“If they’re attracted to human suffering... does that mean they attack people all the time?” The young boy asked, nervously shuffling about in his seat. “Ah, yeah. They have their own version of Hunters to fight them off, though. Huntsmen and Huntress. They do a bunch of other jobs too, but those are the most important. Most major cities and countries are concentrated in areas where the Grimm can’t attack.” Construed Killua, boredly creating sparks using his fingers.
“Whoa! Do you think we could fight one?” Gon excitedly asked, his fist clenched in anticipation of a ‘yes’ answer. “It’s dangerous, but I’m sure we could handle it. We didn’t go through the Hunter Exam for nothing, right?” Smirked Killua, his hand now surrounded in excited electricity. “I hope we get to see a Huntsman or Huntress in action... they sound like they’d be strong!” Exclaimed the excited young boy, his fist clenched so hard it almost drew blood from his palms.
CRASH!
A violent squawk filled the airship. It sounded pained and vile. The entire airship shook. Something had crashed directly into it. This crashing and shaking were followed by the unmistakable sound of glass shattering and screaming. “I think that’s... one of the creatures of Grimm,” Killua muttered staying calm and preparing himself for battle, “The bird, it’s called a Nevermore. I think your wish of fighting one of them will come true sooner than expected.”
“Alright, let’s go!” Gon jumped out of his seat and pulled Killua along with him, running across the airship, despite the protests from many on the plane. SQUAWK! Another window smashed and there were more screams. There was no time to waste. People could already be dead. If he got to the pilot, the entire airship could crash and kill everyone aboard. Gon gasped as the business class of the airship was entirely steeped in blood.
And there, standing in the middle of it, was the cause of all that blood. The Nevermore. It’s talons coated in the viscous, red substance. Having no sense of danger, Gon went running straight after it. “Gon! Wait!” Killua called out, knowing his attempts would be ultimately fruitless. “First comes rock...” Gon began his incantation, allowing him to use his strongest move. “Rock, paper...” His fist began to glow with power, “ROCK!” he finally screamed, his closed, stone-hard fist slamming straight into the beak of the Nevermore.
In response to the unexpected impact, the Nevermore let out a pained squawk, even more pained than usual as it was launched out of the broken window of the airship as if it was shot out of a canon. “This is bad! There’s more coming! The distress and the violence have brought even more of them along!” Killua called out, avidly searching the outside of the window, noticing even more Nevermores were coming their way.
Precisely at that moment, Gon was wrapped in the talons of a Nevermore. One which was now attempting to escape from the ship with its new pray, “Gon! Hang in there!” Killua reassured, waiting for the Nevermore to turn around. Once it had, he jumped on its tail, it’s rough feathers being able to be grabbed like Velcro fasteners. “I don’t know what to do next. If I shock it, Gon’ll be hurt by the electricity too... damn it!” He cursed himself for being once again unable to help Gon in a moment of need.
SLICE!
With a dash of rose petals and in a blur of red, the Nevermore completely split in two, its ugly red insides being spilt for all to see. Before Killua could even comprehend what was happening, he was placed on the top of a tree. Gon. who before this point had been falling, was placed directly on the ground. “W-what was that? I didn’t even see anything other than a few rose petals and a blur!” Killua looked down, below the trees. That blur had taken the form of a person. Black hair with red highlights, a red cape and darker dress and an easily recognisable scythe, the same weapon that had split that Nevermore in two.
“Are... are you a Huntress?” Asked Gon, somehow unfazed by the whole ordeal. “Yep, that’s right. I help people... I guess. Uhm, please don’t worry, my team are helping with the rest of the rescue mission-” Ruby began to explain, but she was cut off by a single question. “Wanna fight?” The young boy feverishly asked, dusting himself off as he got to his feet. “Um... I don’t know why I would...” she responded, a very confused look on her face.
“I’m a Hunter! It’s like being a Huntress but a bit different. I’ve never seen anything like you! I bet I’ll be strong enough to defeat you.” Justified the now hyper-excited boy. Moving back slightly, Ruby twirled her weapon around. “Well, I guess I could... I’ve never seen someone called a ‘Hunter’ before, either,” Ruby murmured awkwardly, pointing Crescent Rose at her apparent foe. “Classic Gon,” Killua judged, “He recovers from tragedy quickly and he’s always looking for a challenge. I guess I’ll just watch.”
“Alright!” Boomed Gon, his fists forming into a fighting stance, defensive Nen wrapped around his entire body. “Let’s go!”
FIGHT!
Using her Semblance to its full capabilities, Ruby ran circles around Gon to start off the fight. “I can’t sense her!” Gon thought to himself, “She must be a really proficient Zetsu user... or maybe she doesn’t have any Nen at all!” Suddenly, Ruby threw herself at Gon, Crescent Rose pointing towards his face as her strike was blocked by Gon’s Ryu enhanced fist. He was channelling his aura through his fist in order to block her strike.
“She moves way too predictably... Gon saw her movements coming from miles away, that’s how he was able to block her attack,” Killua confirmed with himself, watching the fight from a treetop. “He’s probably channelled around 60% of his aura into his arm, so he can channel enough 40% into his leg so he can strike!”
Naturally, Gon’s next action was to carry that out, kicking forward with all his strength, but Ruby had expected this and blocked with her scythe. Using the same scythe, she shot at the ground, the intense recoil of the blast moved her upwards, towards the treetops. “There’s a high calibre gun in her scythe?!” Gon was confused by this new information but certainly knew how to climb a tree. He rushed up to the treetops and went after his opponent. Noticing her approaching opponent, Ruby transformed her scythe into a sniper and fired at her opponent with the recoil carrying her back once more.
“Impressive! She keeps on using a disadvantage and turning it into an advantage... I can do that too!” A determined smile came onto Gon’s face. “First comes rock...” energy channelled into Gon’s fist. It looked yellow from a distance. However, Ruby was unable to actually see the energy as she could not see Gon’s aura. But she could feel something in the air. Deciding to play it safe, Ruby sped over to the trunk of the tree and cut it down... quickly moving before it fell on her. She was confused why Gon had no reaction to this happening... almost like he expected it!
“ROCK, PAPER... ROOCCKKKK!” she heard him shout as pain shot through her body. Rock? More like a million rocks slamming into her stomach at once. Gon had used the charging time of his main attack as an advantage, letting Ruby cut down the tree so he could hit this attack. Before her back could hit against a tree, Ruby somehow found the strength to use her sniper to recoil her upwards. Quickly transforming the sniper back into a scythe, she used it to stop her momentum by sliding across the ground.
“I wonder if her insane bursts of speed or the sniper scythe are her Hatsu? She must be very skilled at In if Gon can’t sense her... wait... n-no! Could it be that she doesn’t have an aura to begin with!?” Killua mused from the treetops, watching the battle very closely. “If Gon doesn’t realise this, I think he’ll be in big trouble!"
In a dash of rose petals, Ruby was now behind Gon, ready to strike with a powerful scythe blow, but she knew he would defend against it. She had swapped out her regular dust ammunition with gravity ammunition. “I don’t think normal tactics will work against this guy, I’ve gotta think fast,” her mind raced and the conclusion she came to was a trick with gravity ammunition. She quickly pointed the end of her scythe that could fire sniper bullets at the ground, the gravity ammunition lifting them both of their feet, except Ruby was prepared for such an outcome while Gon was not.
Loading a normal type of bullet into her sniper rifle, Ruby pointed it at Gon, who, as he was not prepared for the attack, was flying up into the air, with his front to the ground, preparing his body for impact when he inevitably fell back down. To make sure he got down to the ground faster and in a more painful manner, Ruby fired a shot at his back. His body smashing against the dirt of the ground. Transforming her scythe into a gun once again, Ruby fired into the sky instead of firing at Gon, moving her back and onto some treetops. She moved under the leaves of one of the trees, using it as makeshift camouflage.
“Gon, be careful. I don’t think her plan is to snipe you from a distance. If she wanted to do that, she would’ve already done that. I’m not sure you could survive more than one swing from that scythe,” Killua spoke as if Gon was actually listening, a habit of his.
Back on his feet, Gon couldn’t see where the Huntress was, so he decided to lure her out in the best way he could. “First comes rock...” he mumbled but made sure he was loud enough so that Ruby could hear him. “He’s gonna take down the trees? Good. If he takes down the trees, he won’t see what I have planned before it’s too late!” Ruby thought to herself, a slight smile forming on her face. “Judging by her smell, she wants to make me think she’s gonna snipe me from a distance. But she’s gonna jump off the tree and use the recoil and her speed to get behind me, so I need to surprise her.”
“Rock, paper...” Gon repeated once more, trying to bait Ruby. “Here it comes, time to jump!” Pressing her legs against the tree, Ruby sprung off the tree, preparing her scythe to attack Gon from the side. “SCISSORS!!!” Gon shouted, throwing Ruby completely off guard. She realised that he had realised what she was doing. And decided to divert the course of her attack from the back to the front, exactly what Gon had been expecting. His now Nen-bladed hand clashed with her scythe, sparks flying as the Nen scraped the metal of the scythe. “Rock, paper and scissors all seem to do different things. This is an interesting semblance. Though, it seems like this ‘scissors’ attack is weaker than his rock attack.”
Using her semblance to burst into the air at maximum speed, Ruby aimed her sniper-scythe at Gon again, quickly switching the ammo to fire ammunition. Fire spewed out the front of Crescent Rose, which Gon narrowly managed to avoid. But this was Ruby’s plan; to force him into a choke point as he was now trapped between a ground that was partially on fire or a tree that Ruby could light on fire if he were to jump on it. Pointing her scythe towards the ground, Ruby came down with a smash, cutting into the ground. She quickly realised this meant she hadn’t cut into Gon.
“Did she not realise that Gon could jump backwards!?” Killua thought, not realising that the fire ammo was still loaded into the gun. A smile appeared on Ruby’s face as she pulled the trigger again, lighting the distance between her and Gon on fire. She lifted the scythe up, she hadn’t even noticed Gon had jumped onto it and was now sitting on it. Expecting to be thrown off, Gon gave a cocky wave to Ruby before jumping off the scythe, onto a nearby tree and escaping the fire.
“I should move too,” Killua thought to himself, moving away from the fire as Gon began to divert Ruby away from the fire by jumping on the treetops. “I have to distract her and hit her when she’s distracted,” thoughts raced through Gon’s mind, planning out his next move. He jumped up into the air, Nen charging into him once more, but it was clear he was using a lot less Nen than before. “First comes rock…” Gon channelled more Nen into his fist, charging as much as he could into what was essentially his weakest attack. “Rock, paper... paper!” Gon shouted, releasing as much Nen as he possibly could into his weakest attack, using the recoil of using the attack while being in the air to send him backwards. Ruby easily blocked the slow and weak attack, but Gon was now ahead of her and on the ground.
“First comes rock...” Gon murmured again, putting a considerable amount more power into the attack. Using the recoil from her bullets to travel quicker, Ruby reached the ground again, she had heard Gon’s signature warcry, but Gon was nowhere to be seen. In reality, he was behind a tree, charging up his signature Jajanken once more. “ROCK, PAPERR... SCISSORS!” Ruby heard screamed from behind the tree, a tree that was now spinning in mid-air and hurtling towards her due to Gon’s powerful punch. “An entire tree!?” Jumping above the tree, Ruby cut it in half and then used one of the halves of the tree as a platformer, shooting a dust bullet to guide her towards Gon, who looked on in shock, as did Killua. “I-i-is she... surfing on a tree!?” he reasoned with himself that this was indeed the reality of the situation, she was indeed ‘surfing’ on the tree.
As the tree trunk slid across the ground, scratching away grass, Ruby aimed her sniper at Gon, who had once again run out of the way. She fired at a tree that Gon was hiding behind, the tree was cut completely in half. Gon jumped up, using Ko to enhance his punch and the tree trunk came flying at Ruby at an alarming rate. Ruby cut the tree in half with a single swing of her scythe. She did not seem phased by the attack. Enhancing his kick with Ko, Gon shot the other half of the tree trunk at her. Ruby simply cut through it with a single shot from her Crescent Rose. Lifting a tree trunk up without using any Nen, Gon simply threw it at Ruby, who cut it in half with a single swing of Crescent Rose once again. “I can do this all day, y’know! And deforestation is a serious issue!” Ruby reasoned with her opponent, trying to stop him from harming the forest anymore.
“I get what Gon’s doing here,” Killua reflected, “I think he was trying to check if she would get tired from that. She doesn’t seem to be. If that scythe was her Hatsu, then surely she would’ve overused her Nen by now. Still, it’s a gigantic weapon; it’s probably bigger than me. How can she swing that around so easily...?”
“Looks like maybe I should take this a little more seriously...” Gon muttered, but in a way that he obviously meant for Ruby to hear what he was saying. “Uh... you haven’t been fighting seriously when you threw those trees at me?” Ruby pondered, a confused look on her face. “Yeah, were you?” Gon asked, seeming confused. “Yes, I was trying to win this fight... why would you hold back, anyway?” Ruby inquired, legitimately confused on why he would try such a thing, “Because I wanted to make sure you were a real threat...?” Gon muttered, trying to figure out why he actually had held back.
“I’ll show you what a threat looks like!” Ruby thought to herself, rushing towards a slightly more serious-looking Gon in a dash of rose petals and the shifting metal sounds of the sniper-scythe. Channelling his aura into his hand, Gon blocked the slash from Crescent Rose with his bare palm. Ruby couldn’t see it but realised something was up and backed away. “He must have some kind of aura like I do. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have been able to block the shot. But I think his works differently from mine,” she thought to herself, knowing that a slash from the scythe would normally cut a normal person’s hand in two. “She can’t see my aura, but she’s clearly been using an ability that seems like Hatsu... is it possible that she has an aura, but it’s different from mine?”
“Okay, you’re pretty strong... but I’ve been wondering; are you fast enough?” Ruby quickly belted out as she had always wanted to say that line. Suddenly, in a dash of rose petals and blinding speed, Ruby was running circles around Gon once again, attempting to confuse him. “My aura protects me all the time, but let’s see if his protects him all the time!” Ruby’s mind raced, much like her, all around trying to figure out what to do to Gon now it had been established she had the speed advantage as Gon clearly could not do anything to stop her running circles around him. “If I was able to detect her aura, then maybe I’d be able to do something... but I can’t! She just so much faster!”
Going in for an attack, Ruby smashed the end of the scythe into Gon’s chin, sending him up into the sky and ready for another attack. With more of her incredible speed, Ruby was already behind Gon before he knew what was happening and brought her scythe down on the boy’s sides, both cutting into them and forcing the young Hunter back to the ground with a large thud. “I was right! He doesn’t have an aura like me! He wasn’t defending the attack there because he wasn’t reacting it to it. This must mean his aura isn’t an automatic defence like mine is. In other words, if I can catch him off guard, I win!”
As Gon got back to his feet, he noticed Ruby circling around him once again. They had both figured out the same thing: they had different auras. A new phase of the fight had begun. They knew each other’s strengths and weaknesses. All that was left was to prove who really was the better fighter between the two.
The Huntress swung her scythe towards the boy, aiming for his abdomen. A successful hit would surely spell the end of this battle. It would probably weaken his aura enough that she would be able to hit the final strike and end this battle. But the boy disappeared before the scythe could land a hit. He appeared behind Ruby, his hands clasped once again. “Here it comes...!” she thought to herself, ready to take the blow head-on.
“First... comes... roooockk...!” She shielded from the deadly blow with her scythe, but she quickly came to realise that the attack never hit. She turned around, only to notice that Gon was not there. “Rock... scissors... PAPER!” the hunter screamed out, a blast of energy coming from his clasped hands, travelling as fast as it could across the air, albeit, it wasn’t really travelling very fast at all. Ruby shielded the blast with her scythe.
“That was the second fake-out…” she thought to herself, “Why would there be two fake-outs? He’s just expending his aura! His energy has to run out sooner or later... so why is he continuing to fake me out?... n-no, he can’t be...!”
Killua, still watching observantly from the sidelines, thinking about Gon’s tactics during the battle, “Gon has realised that this girl can’t use Nen... but she has something similar in her body. She still has an aura... but not the same as mine or his aura. And he’s using that to his advantage! He’s hiding in plain sight and doing false flag attacks using very little of his Nen... no matter what, she won’t be able to sense his aura... but I’m not sure he could sense hers either…”
Killua and Ruby, somehow, thought the same thing at the same time. “He’s trying to confuse me/her into falling right into an attack!”
Having realised this, Ruby jumped straight into the air, spinning her scythe underneath her, shaving away all the bushes around her foot. “Has she realised what I’m trying to do?” Gon thought to himself, scampering behind a tree. Unfortunately for him, Ruby saw this motion out of the side of her eye. “Gotcha!” she exclaimed to herself, slashing the tree in half with her scythe.
“FIRSTTT... COMES... ROCKKK...!” Gon shouted, clearly putting a lot more power into than before. “Wait... this was the trap!” she realised, panicking and not defending herself correctly. “...ROCCCKKKKKK...!” the giant punch smashed into Ruby’s stomach, making her fly backwards at incredible speeds, through several trees. “What’s this red stuff coming out of my... oh, it's blood...” she quietly muttered to herself, picking up her scythe.
“That didn’t take her down...?” Killua was shocked. “How? A direct hit from Jajaken should’ve been enough! Gon was using at least seventy-five per cent of his power!” Spitting out blood, Ruby pointed her scythe at Gon. “Oh, I think that was a tooth... yep, definitely a tooth... Anyway! Two can play at that game!” Using her lightning-fast speed, Ruby circled around the forested area. It was so fast it looked like a blur to Gon. Then he noticed all the trees suddenly had cuts in them. They were going to fall down on him if he didn’t move.
“GON! Move to the middle! They’ll fall down in a circular area, if you move to the middle, you might just miss them!” Killua shouted advice to his friend, pointing to the area where the trees were least likely to hit. Gon followed suit, it was the only thing he could do. Of course, this was a trap by the leader of Team RWBY. “She’s gonna try and stab me with her scythe... I can block it by focusing my aura into my hand using Ryu... but then I’ll be unable to counterattack with a big move...”
Surely enough, Ruby came jumping with her scythe poised to strike with Gon’s hand only barely able to stop the scythe blade. “Gotcha!... again,” Ruby smiled, she fired a sniper bullet right between his eyes, exactly where he wasn’t focusing his aura. In serious pain, Gon backed away, his hand over the now cut skin on his forehead. “She’s figured out how Ryu works... damn it! I should’ve been more careful!” Gon jumped behind a tree, but he suddenly had an epiphany. “I can’t sense her aura... but I could sense another aura and put it on her...”
Picking up a random spider from the ground, Gon threw it into Ruby’s hood without her noticing. “Clever move, Gon. By using the spider, he can sense the spider’s natural aura, which means he has a way to sense her!” Killua realised as he saw the spider being thrown by Gon. “But this could be a problem if the spider starts crawling on her neck. If it starts doing that, then she’ll figure out what he’s doing.”
“Y’know, you’ve done enough hiding behind trees today!” Ruby called out, once again running around in circles with rose petals following behind her. “There! I can tell where she’s going!” Gon smirked, grabbing his fishing rod, muttering “Haven’t used this in a while...” as he did so. Predicting where Ruby would go next, Gon swung his fishing rod with incredible accuracy, causing it to wrap around Crescent Rose. He then reeled the sniper-scythe in, taking it for himself. The quick action of the scythe being ripped out of her hand caused Ruby to fall on the ground face-first which also caused the spider to fall onto her head.
“Ew... a spider...” Ruby looked at the creature before placing it down on the ground. “Hey! That’s my scythe! Give it back!” she shouted at Gon, speeding towards him in a dash of rose petals. Grabbing a nearby tree and spinning around it, she propelled her feet into an unexpecting Gon’s face. Causing the Hunter to stumble backwards and drop the scythe. The Huntress quickly grabbed it. Firing a quick shot at Gon’s legs to make sure that he did not try to steal the scythe, who scampered away. “Looks like stealing the scythe won’t work... but I need to charge up a strong Jajanken... I have to distract her somehow. There’s a pond nearby, I could use that…” Gon thought to himself, jumping the incredible distance to the pond.
“Oh no you don’t!” Ruby said, chasing after the Hunter with her incredible speed. “He knows I’m faster than him, so what exactly is he trying to do with this?” Ruby wondered as she blazed towards him. “FIRST COMES ROCK!” was heard across the trees around her, “I can dodge, I can dodge no problem…” Ruby smirked, knowing that the blow would be easy to dodge, especially since she knew it was coming. But Gon’s trick was that he was not trying to hit Ruby. He was aiming for something below himself with a much weaker Jajanken. “Gon’s not putting as much energy into the Jajanken as you would think. He’s barely using any of his Nen but I think she’s assuming that because of the loud scream he’s exerting more energy,” Killua explained to himself for no reason in particular.
“Rock, paper... rock!” Gon shouted at, striking the pond beneath his feet, splashing water everywhere and into Ruby’s eyes and face. “Good, and I have enough Nen to hit a big Jajanken...” Gon thought to himself, powering up for real as Ruby was still startled by the sudden splash of water and completely blinded. Rubbing her eyes, Ruby couldn’t help but notice the glow coming from Gon. Her ears were blocked by the water for a second, so she could not hear the signature “First comes rock...” that Gon chanted every time he used the attack. “ROCK, PAPER... ROCKKKK!” chanted Gon, releasing his most powerful Jajanken up to this point, completely rocking Ruby in the face. Blood flew and her aura cracked as she was launched through several trees before sliding across the mud-covered ground, blood dripping from her forehead. Her aura had healed some minor injuries from the fight, but the Jajanken almost shattered her skull. Without her aura, she probably would have died. “I can’t get hit with another attack like that... I’ve gotta protect myself. I’ll have to predict what he’s gonna do next and hit him before he can!”
Wiping away blood from her mouth, Ruby burst forward in a dash of rose petals. She knew that Gon was able to predict her movements well enough, so she had to predict his movements before he could strike. “He needs to charge up that rock, paper, scissors attack, so I won’t let him!” Ruby thought to herself, slashing the ground underneath her. Gon looked on in utter confusion but then he realised that this wasn’t random slashing, she was slashing a square of land around him. Gon jumped up, the land caved in underneath him. However, Ruby knew that Gon would do that and she had already predicted his next move. “First comes rock...” he began charging up in the air. “He doesn’t have enough energy to do another one!” Killua thought to himself, watching from the treetops.
“Rock, paper...” Gon kept his opponent in suspense by delaying the attack for a few seconds. “Here it comes…” Ruby thought to herself, watching his hand carefully. “PAPER!...” Gon shouted, but it took him a few seconds to realise that Ruby had shouted the same thing, “H-huh!?” Gon exclaimed, visibly confused. Before he could even react, Ruby was behind him, slashing into him with her scythe, cutting open his back and sending him crashing into the ground. Quickly, Ruby unloaded her current bullets and replaced them with ice bullets, firing an ice projectile on Gon, who was in the square that Ruby cut from the ground.
Channelling Ko into his hand, Gon punched the ice block back at Ruby. Blocking the blow with her remaining aura, Ruby sent what could only be described as a shockwave of energy using her aura into her hand, sending the block flying at very high speeds. The block crashed into Gon, shattering into tiny pieces as it hit him. Bouncing off a tree, Ruby fired another ice block, it hit the already startled Gon, breaking into many tiny pieces and allowing Ruby to come in for another big attack, slamming the end of her scythe into Gon’s face, causing him to go flying into another tree, breaking it in half.
“So... is it pronounced Gon as in gone or Gon as in rhyming with cone?” Ruby sarcastically asked, knowing the boy wouldn’t answer. “First comes rock...!” Gon charged the Nen in his hands once again. He seemed annoyed and was on the verge of unleashing something incredibly powerful as a last resort. He was putting so much Nen into the attack that small pebbles were flying up from the ground. Ruby, who could not sense Nen, could feel the pressure and power Gon was putting into the attack. “Gon! What're you doing!? You’re gonna kill her if you hit her that hard!” Killua thought to himself, watching the exchange in awe.
“I won’t let you!” Ruby yelled, moving so fast she almost teleported behind Gon. Using her scythe as a sort of stand, Ruby spun around it, her foot slamming into the back of Gon’s head, stopping his charge for the Jajanken. “I’ve gotta prevent him from using that move by all means necessary! If I don’t... I think he’ll kill me!” Thoughts rushed through the Huntress’ mind as she got as far away from Gon as possible. “You know what beats rock, paper and scissors? Fire!” Ruby smirked to herself, shouting that out, changing her ammunition to gravity-based ammunition. She shot at the ground once more, propelling herself upwards. She moved her scythe, the blade behind her head. She had noticed Gon was charging up a Jajanken once more. “First...! Comes….! Rockkkkk...!” Her blade came down with incredible force onto Gon’s shoulder, Gon felt it immediately.
“Aaaargh!” he cried out, his shoulder completely separated from his body along with the rest of his arm. "Crap! Not again!" Killua secretively thought to himself. Ruby looked shocked. She had not meant to cut off his arm. “Uh... ummm...! Uhhhh...! That was... an accident...”
“ROCK, PAPER... ROOOOOCKKKK!” Gon screamed, almost primal in nature, smashing Ruby in the chest with a massive Jajanken. Ruby had her hand in front of her chest which managed to protect her ribs... at the cost of her hand being completely shattered. The force of the blow sent Ruby smashing into the ground and sliding across it. “W-with... one arm?!” Ruby yelled, trying to get used to the pain of having her hand completely shattered by the blow. “Why is it always the arm...?”
Not wanting to stand back, Gon went straight for Ruby, almost kicking her head off but being blocked by the Huntress’ scythe. Using his remaining arm, Gon grabbed Ruby’s head from behind the scythe’s defences. “Uh... no?” Ruby quipped, using her aura again to send Gon flying with a palm strike, a shockwave of energy going through him. Mud flew everywhere as Gon slid across the ground, every part of his body bashing into something. Getting back to his feet, though dazed, Gon pulled out his fishing rod and swung it once more, aiming for Ruby’s scythe. “This’ll never work while she’s standing... but...!” as Gon suspected, the fishing rod was completely cut in half by Ruby’s quick reflexes.
“GOTCHA!” Gon shouted, nailing Ruby in the face with a massive knee, almost breaking her nose. “First... comes... rock!” Gon chanted once more, charging the Nen up in his fist. “Rock, paper... or scissors?” pondered Ruby, already secretly knowing the answer as he was not putting enough power in it for it to be rock and paper was useless. “Rock, paper... scissors!!” Gon exclaimed, his hand changing into a blade of Nen once more. He went to slash Ruby, but she managed to block his blow with her own bladed weapon. Even though the two Hunters only had one operational arm, they were still determined to fight until the bitter end. Attempting to take Ruby’s legs out, Gon kicked her in the shin. This caused her to fall down to one knee. Before Gon could take a swing that would hurt or even kill Ruby, however, she shot at the ground with her gravity ammunition equipped. The force sending Gon up very high into the sky.
But before she could follow up on anything, her body felt... warm. A smell filled her nose. She knew the smell, every human alive probably did. It was the smell of fire. The forest fire the two had started earlier had caught up to them. As Gon fell down and got back to his feet, he noticed the trees around him had burnt. Killua, on the other hand, was watching the fight from a part of the forest that hadn’t been burnt yet, so he seemed to be fine. “I need to get out of here before I burn to death!” both of them thought, neither of them had any way of escaping the flames, but they were going to try.
The fire was getting closer and closer to spreading to them. They were starting to realise that this fight had gotten a little bit out of hand. Gon tried to jump up but was unable to. Suddenly, Ruby had an idea. It was risky, but it would have to be done. Loading ice ammunition back into her rifle, she transformed the scythe into a sniper once again. She fired ice blocks at the fire, blocking it off from escaping any further. She shot again, lining the ice blocks in a way that they created a tower for her to escape.
“Hold on! We’re still fighting, remember!?” Ruby shouted out, not wanting to leave this fight. “Maybe we should get out of this-”
“FIRST COMES ROCCCCKKK...!”
"Oh... crud," Ruby muttered to herself, feeling the raw bloodlust of the action. A scream went throughout the forest as Gon channelled all the Nen he possibly could into his hand and into the most powerful Jajanken he could possibly do. He was determined to win this fight. Despite the strain it put on his body, he even jumped up while charging the Jajanken in order to completely beat Ruby and destroy her tower of ice.
Shooting the ice underneath her feet while having the gravity ammunition active, Ruby rose up once again. Using her good arm, she swung the scythe over her head. If you looked from above, you would have saw Ruby’s shadow cast over the burning forest. It would have also looked like the shattered moon itself was behind her as she jumped in front of it, ready to deliver a final strike.
“ROCK, PAPER... ROCCCCKKKK...!”…
(Music stop)
All the light from the Nen, all the light from the aura in the sky. It suddenly disappeared from Killua's vision. Had he succeeded? Maybe not; Killua couldn't sense his aura from where he was . It was unlikely Gon just concealed it at a time like this. He could not see past the smoke from the flames, so he wasn't sure of Gon's ultimate fate.
Drip, drip…
Blood, more blood. It fell from above the trees and evaporated due to the heat of the fire. More and more continued to spill out of the body above them but was disappearing too. The only sounds were some hushed, laboured breathing and the crackling sound of the fire taunting the survivor's ears.
The murderer looked upon her victim. Her weapon still inside him, blood dripping from it. His fist, chest and neck were entirely cut into, almost instantly killing him. "I... uh... I... this... wasn't meant to happen..." Ruby reasoned with herself, quickly removing the scythe and trying to escape the scene as soon as possible.
KO!
Cin: That’s disgusting. Anyway, both of them are adept strategists, meaning that even if Gon came up with some sort of plan to get through the speed gap, Ruby could come up with a counter-plan or at least understand what he was doing enough to counter it. Now, Gon could get through the speed gap another way, he could sense Ruby’s aura, right? Well, not exactly.
RESEARCH NOTES:
NEXT TIME ON DEATH BATTLE:
For years, mankind has created weapons to slay each other
Weapons of cruelty, weapons of mass destruction
But what if one of those weapons...
Was our very blood?

Alright, that was pretty damn good. I liked how strategically you had both of them fight. And hey, seeing a RWBY win is always nice in my book.
Nice job Cin. Nice job.

Thanks a lot! I kinda had to implement strategy into it because otherwise there wouldn't be anything too interesting about the fight.

Understandable.
Also...could I actually use your Ruby bio for something I'm working on with a friend?
I asked, but you never really responded until now. I'll credit you, of course.

Not bad, not bad at all, Cin! While I feel it sometimes got a bit repetitive with Gon's attacks, that's less a fault with your writing, and more an issue with HunterXHunter's attacks. I like how the finisher was an accident, too. It's still in character for Ruby while also being brutal!

Did you write this along with that other DBX? Or did you actually write this in a few days, cause that’s amazing.

Ah, no. I've had this fight written for months. Only now did I release it, though.
