Description I had promised quite a few that I would try to put up some tutorials, so here is the first. I am not very used to making tutorials, so if you find something confusing, please send me a note and I will see if I can fix the problem.

If you like this tutorial or wind up using it, please comment and let me know what you think. I would also very much appreciate it if you would send me a link of the artwork it was used for.

Thanks
~CioMaria

Nice tutorial. I made a big set of custom brushes after reading this. They give even more of a hand inked look than the ones supplied by Illustrator.

Cool!

Hey, nowadays i am having this problem with Illustrator, i am not able to draw selecting the brushes with the pen tool....i.e pen tool having the brush properties....any suggestions??

I find that I have the same problem in the newer versions (I'm using CS2 sometimes) while I don't have the same problem in 9.

What I do now is make a separate layer that is to contain all of the "brush" strokes that I draw with a regular pen stroke first, then I select the entire layer and apply the brushstroke to all of the paths on the layer at once.

Its not as handy as being able to draw with the brushstroke in realtime, but its the quickest fix that I have found so far. Hope this helps ^_~

You mean it works for you in CS?? For me it is same in cs also!!

I clearly remember i could do it some time back in CS2....but not now....i thought it is just me...i tried re-installing the prog. but didn't work!!

It is pretty frustrating, takes long time, it is faster & easier when we can do it with pen tool!

Yeah, you're right, i also do it with the method you mentioned!

I remember it working in CS as well, that is why I was surprised when I upgraded that it did not work. It seems to want to revert to regular penstroke every time, while the brush tool keeps the brushstroke without reverting.

It is a bit frustrating because I prefer the pen tool over the brush one as well. I got a tablet, which helps, but I still use the touchpad on my laptop a lot since I work on the go. The brush is a bit awkward to use on the touchpad.

If I find another fix, I will be sure to let you know.

Kudos! I don't think i can draw anything on laptop!

I recently bought a tablet....though i still have to lay my hands on it...but i think, it should be easier with it once you tame it!! But, i guess the problem with pen/brush as we are discussing will be same with tablet too...or is it other way??

Yes, please let me know, & so would i if i find a fix!! I also prefer pen tool over brush....cause you can be more precise with that!!
