Description Doesn't matter if you're Beastkin or Human , a ronin is a ronin, and if its a ronin you remain, things aren't going to be easy going. Granted it isn't immediately and entirely an existence of destitution, but you've certainly fallen from grace.
No one is an island, and samurai are no exception. Though they are what all the sorties are about and the ones who get all the praise, they do not act or operate solo. Consider for example; armor. If you've seen any old suit of armor, from any part of the world, you know that is not an easy thing to put on alone, if you can even do that, never mind all effort that went into simply making it. And that's just putting the plating on, taking care of it is not a simple process, and even if it requires expertise to do, is that what should be expected of a noble samurai, or their attendants? Samurai can be what they are thanks to the expectation of a support network around and under them that let them do what they do.
Ronin don't have this.
Sure some of the might be crafty enough to find some way to recreate that support, but short of ascending back into being a samurai for one reason or another, or establishing an equally robust power structure, they're more or less on their own and have to get creative when it comes keeping their gear up to snuff.
So they have two options.
One is to put up with lower quality of what they already know how to use. A dull sword still swings the same way as a normal one, it just lacks the same cutting power of one kept up to par. Improvising a set of full armor may not be as robust as the real deal, but it still offers the same full range of coverage and is better than nothing.
The other is to downsize to the easy and bare necessities. Who needs a full suit of armor when you can cover what's vital and move the rest out of the way, or get creative? Why bother with a sword that requires so much care and graceful mastery, when a large mass you can swing just as fast works just as well? After all, a cut requires an edge, but breaking something just needs speed and weight. Who would want to risk their own delicate blade stopping a massive chunk of iron?
