"Alfred's Body Shop and Repairs" Paige read to herself while looking up to the sign hanging above the doorway. She stood in front of what was clearly not a garage or mechanic business, but a building wedge in between several other shops nestled in a bustling city. This wasn't her first time visiting, however, as she walked her way up the stoop to enter.
Inside was simply a very causal front desk setting. There was a flat screen TV playing cheesy day time game shows hanging on the wall. The whole wooden paneling on the walls and hanging decorations were straight out of the sixties, having a very green and orange color motif. At the front desk was a clear casual man, tilting his chair back and feet on the desk top. He was Alfred, and a very well built Alfred at that. Muscular, very well kept black hair, a five o' clock shadow, and wearing a flannel shirt with rolled up sleeves and blue jeans. Alfred was not particularly busy at before the bell ringing of the front door opening, but he quickly put away the pencil that was perched on his lips to jump up and greet the costumer.
"Hello and welcome to Alfred's Body Shop and- Oh hey, it's Paige!"
"That's right, it's Paige" she said while pulling the strap of her bag back over her shoulder and simultaneously waving to the owner of the shop.
Alfred leaned over his desk, propping himself on his hands. "And what brings to my neck of the woods? I hope everything is running okay"
Paige made her way across the front lobby and nodded to Alfred. "Oh don't worry, everything is fine. I'm just here to get a tune up. Making sure everything is running, ya know?"
The shop owner nodded with her while handing the young lady a clipboard with information to fill out. "A tune up, oh? Any special occasion or are you just that eager to spend the day with me?"
She let out a small chuckle of a giggle while taking the clipboard to fill out. "I mean I don't need a flimsy excuse like that to hang out with you. It's just I got two weeks off for the holidays and I figured before I did anything too crazy, I should get everything perfect."
"Oh yes, that makes sense." Alfred responded by taking the completed information sheet. "Let's just double check to see you filled out. Let's see, Name: Paige Yamaguchi. Sure that makes sense. Hair: Black? Yeah that checks out. Eyes: Brown? Yep, correct. Age: Tw-"
"Aright enough of that!" Paige interrupted while pushing the clipboard to Alfred's chest, playfully laughing. "How about we get started now, is that okay?"
"Haha, of course. Just follow me to the back then."
Alfred put down the clipboard and made his way to open the door for his costumer. Paige entered the hallway with the owner of the shop while adjusting her bag over her shoulder once again. The two past several closed doors. It wasn't a long walk down the hall as the building was not that big at all. Only one of the doors were open in the hall and that was the one Paige and Alfred walked in to. Within the room was nothing special. A few chairs, a few cupboards, a workbench with tools and a table in the center. Though, the table was odd in that it's basic shape was not that of a normal table top. It vaguely resembled the figure of a person. There was a cushion for a head to rest and four extensions for limbs that seem to be on hinges so they can either be pushed up against the main board or spread apart in a star shape.
"Alright Paige, you know the drill. I'll be right back." Alfred left the room and closed the door behind him.
Paige gave a nod as the shop owner left the room. She dropped her bag on a chair while also kicking off her slip on shoes. She quickly started to take off accessories like bracelets, a necklace, and her thick black rim glasses. Next was the big stuff. Paige pulled off her green, open shoulder sweater and folded it into her bag. She then pulled off her black leggings with a sway of her hips, in the bag the went. Finally she unhooked her red bra and slipped off her matching underwear, putting them away in the bag as well. Paige then made her nude form over to the center table and laid down on top of it. Her head fit on the cushion with comfort. She noted that there was padding at the opposite end of the table for her feet to push against, but her dainty feet didn't make it to them by an inch or two.
She waited a minute, maybe two or three, just laying there naked on an oddly shaped table until she heard the sound of the door opening. Paige turned her head to see Alfred walking back in, now sporting a long apron over his body and work gloves on his hands.
"Alright, let's get to work!" Alfred pulled over a chair to sit in as he used a foot pump adjust the height of the table to something more comfortable. He then pulled out a roll of tape with a metallic sheen to it. "Are you feeling comfortable there, Paige?"
Paige simply nodded as Alfred pulled off a strip of the tape with a loud stretching creak.
"That's good!" Alfred continued to wrap the tap under and over Paige's neck, cutting it off the roll as he made a ring around her neck. "Also I'm glad you actually have done up your hair this time. Your hair is so long, going down to your back if I remember, and it always got caught up in the tape and table."
"You could say I've learned my lesson through experience." She joked and stuck her tongue out.
Alfred laughed as he continued to apply the silver tape. Soon he had wrapped rings around both of Paige's shoulders and underarm. "So if you don't mind me asking" Alfred spoke up to create small talk as he wrapped a ring of tape around Paige's waist, "What sort of vacation were you planning for the holidays?"
"Well I was planning on to my parent's place back in Japan"
Alfred raised an eyebrow curiously as he finished wrapping tape just at the very top of Paige's thighs. "You're getting a tune up just to visit your parents? I mean it sounds like quite the plane ride but-"
"Well let me finish!" she exclaimed as the shop keeper started to pull another strap of tape, "I was saying I was planning on visiting my parents, but they decided to go to Hawaii this year for Christmas. I didn't have any objections, but that meant I had no plans"
"Oooh, I got ya now" Alfred replied as he carefully did his best to apply stripes of tape under and over Paige's hefty breast, going around and in between the large chest orbs at their base.
"So I think instead of a traditional Christmas, I might just go cross country. I've always wanted to go to California, but I never had the free time to do it"
"Ah! What a cool idea" Alfred finished applying the metallic tape in the right spots. He then reached into his apron to pull out what looked similar in shape to an ear thermometer but with a red LED light at the tip. "Any particular locations you wanted to stop at on your trip?"
Paige lifted her chin as Alfred took the strange device to her neck. He carefully ran the red tip across the the center ring of the tape. "I had no real destination planned out yet" she answered, "I figured once we're done here and depending when I can leave, I can map out my route for any sort of fun stops that might be on the way to California"
"Ah yeah, that sounds really nice" Alfred nodded as he made a complete circle around Paige's neck. He set the tool on the table and put two hands onto young woman's shoulders. With a quick push down, Paige's nude body slide slightly down the table, but her head remained on the cushion. "Alright, just going to check.." He then delicately ran a finger under Paige's chin. He observed where her neck would connect to her jaw was the tape, but it now looked to be a silver film under the base of her skin. A very similar surface was covering the top of Paige's neck. "There we go. A perfect seal"
The head of Paige smiled up to the shop owner. "That's good to hear" she said as Alfred started to give the other tape locations a similar treatment. "So how about you, Alfred?"
"Hm?" Alfred and popped off her arms as the sat by her body, disconnected at the shoulder with that same metallic sheen.
"Ya know, for the holidays?"
"Ah right" Alfred took a hold of the sides of Paige's hips and tugged downward, separating her torso in what the business called 'the magician's half'. He then started to work his hands down to tug off each of Paige's legs, finally having her feet reach the cushions of the bottom end of the table. "I typically work through the holidays. I like them at all and I do my best to get into the spirit, but I usually rely on what friends might have planned since I don't have too much of family around"
"Oh I didn't know" Paige's head felt a bit awkward for asking, she was not expecting an answer like that.
Alfred simply shrugged and smiled as ran his tool around each of Paige's breast. "Ah you don't gotta feel bad. I really do enjoy the holidays. My friends always have something planned" Alfred then placed his hands over Paige's chest as he lifted her breast off her chest, leaving two sliver circles on her now flat bust. "Besides, I gotta stay in the office just in case a costumer wants a tune up before they go on vacation!" Alfred rolled his chair over to the workbench and placed her jiggling mounds onto the counter. He kicked his chair back over the table as he grabbed Paige's head and lifted it off the table.
"Oh yes, and I'm very thankful for that" Paige's head said with a bright smile as Alfred carried it to workbench.
He placed her head down next to the young lady's breast, angling it so she could watch as he work. Alfred then returned to the bits and pieces of Paige remaining on the table, spreading out the arm extensions so he could get close to her upper torso. He then started to peel some of the silver coverings on her chest. What was revealed was a bit more simple than was one would expect. With the chest tape off her chest, Alfred looked through the two holes to find a look at Paige's rib cage. Through the bone was a very empty and clean space, there was no blood or messy organs. There simply sat the cartoonishly simple yet still beating heart of Paige. Next, Alfred peeled off the rest of the chest sealing, revealing the inner parts of Paige's shoulders and bottom of her chest. It was the same contents that could be viewed from the breast windows, just at different angles. He finally took out some tools from his apron and started to examine the bones that would connect to the other parts.
"Everything seems to be in good shape here" the shop owner said while examining each joint. "Just expected wear and tear, you mention you work out, right?"
The head of Paige attempted to nod, but the lack of a neck prevented that. She then simply let out loud "Mmhm!" so she would save her jaw muscles the strain.
"And what sort of exercise would that be?"
Paige's head rolled her eyes as being a head on a flat surface is about as annoying as a dentist asking questions with their fingers in your mouth. She took in a bit of a breath and let out. "Only yoga in the evening"
"Ah yeah, nothing too stressful. That's good" Alfred then reached in through the bottom of her torso to gently feel the 'heart' of Paige. He was gentle as to not squeeze or damage it. Even though he was wearing gloves, this soft touch gave all of Paige a funny feeling, as though she had butterflies in her chest. "And this seems to be feeling A-OK. Glad to see no one has broken your heart lately!"
The head of Paige simply stuck her tongue out, he made that joke every time she came in for a tune up.
The next move Alfred made was down to her hips and legs. He peeled off each of the caps on the top of her waist and where her legs would connect. Inside was just a hip bone as one would expect. But there was also another object found within Paige's lower curves. It was similar to her heart, but more of a proper and full round shape. Alfred made his way in through the top and made his best to check the joints one again. He then gave the strange, round object a gentle touch. He was careful with it, just as he was with her heart, and this made Paige's head give quivering inhale as her whole body felt excited.
"Hm.." Alfred let out some concern. "So Paige, uh.." He pulled back from her hips and rubbed the back of his neck. "This is strictly a professional question but uh.. When was the last time you used that?"
"Oh?" Paige's cheeks flushed red as she did her best to recall. "I suppose it h-has been a while. Yeah. Why do you ask?"
"Oh nothing is wrong" Alfred answered, "But this thing is practically as good as new. And I've been doing your tune ups for how long now? It's nothing major, but it's recommended that you start putting it to some use. Be it by yourself or with someone else. Keep that in mind, okay?"
The head of Paige bit her lower lip and let out a bashful "Mmhm"
"Aright, with all that out of the way.." Alfred rolled back over to his work bench. "Let's just take a look in your noggin real quick" He took Paige's head and turns it on it's side. He then peels the silver line under her head as it exposes the content of her head. It wasn't a great view, but on the inside was the lining of the inside of Paige's skull. Clean like the rest of her, clean to the point where there wasn't even a brain where one would expect it. Inside Paige's head was more like looking into electronics, to put it in the most simple way of describing it. There were several switches and circuits that you normally wouldn't expect the inside of a head to have, but it still had an organic look to it, just not messy at all.
Alfred took out some tools to reach inside the under opening of Paige's head while also holding a flashlight in his own teeth. He made sure to examine and carefully check the inner workings of Paige's head. All her head could do was start into the shop keeper's chest. It was a nice chest for sure. Hopefully there was no way he could read the thoughts going through her head right now, she never really considered that until now. In fact, she didn't understand how any of this worked. She wasn't a robot or anything, that's science fiction. And yet here she was, in pieces all over the room while the electronics of her brain was being checked on. What a world, she thought.
Some time went by as Alfred took the tools from Paige's head and set it back up right. He pulled the flashlight from his teeth and dropped it into his apron. "Well here's the results" Alfred started as he pulled out a clipboard from his cupboard drawer, writing down his findings. "Your body is in great shape. I'll just do some clean up and your body will be ready to head out of here" Alfred took his eyes off his clipboard and back to Paige's head, "However, I did find a faulty issue within your head"
Paige's head looked up to Alfred from his workbench with wide eyes. "An issue? What kind of issue?"
Alfred tilted his head side to side while clicking his pen. "It's nothing too big. As it turns out, you can't see the color green. Which would explain that top you were wearing earlier. I bet you thought it was grey, huh?"
"Oh, actually that makes a lot of sense. Now that you mention it, I can't remember the last time I saw anything green. I can't believe I haven't noticed"
An accidental chuckle escaped Alfred, but he quickly returned his his professional tone. "Ahem, well, it's a bit of an unfortunate thing as I don't have the required parts to fix it in the shop, and due to the thing you signed earlier, I have to keep your head in the shop until I fix it"
"Ah shoot!" Paige's head exclaimed, "Well I guess it's not too bad. It'll only be for a few days, right?"
Alfred nodded and clicked his pen. "Just a few days. You can even choose to have your body leave and come back to pick up your head in case you needed to get anything done while I fix up your head."
Paige's head let out a bit of a sigh. "Well I walked here by myself, I'm not sure I can trust my body to make it home on it's own"
"Oh well that's okay, your body can also stay here in the shop while I work on fixing your head" Alfred rolled his chair back over to the table her body parts are laying on, "I'll just get you back together and you can help me around here"
The head of Paige blinked in a bit of confusion as Alfred started to reapply the silver coverings to her parts. "Help around the shop? I can do that?"
"Ah yeah, of course!" Alfred answered while starting to push each part together. "It's all in the papers you signed, you're in good hands so we can get your body working as an assistant around the shop, if you don't mind, of course."
"Oh no, I don't mind at all" Paige's head watched as Alfred pushed together all of her body parts together in place. He then took the tool from earlier, flipped a switch, and turned the red LED light to green. "That actually sounds really convenient. Hopefully my body picks up some tricks because I find all this stuff really interesting"
Alfred simply nodded as he started to run his tool across each of the division points of Paige's body. As the green light makes contact, the silver tape mended together easily, as if it was never divided at all. Paige's head watched as Alfred was putting the finishing touches on her body. All the joints connect back together. Well, except for.. Alfred smacked his forehead as he forgot the last to parts. He rolled his chair over the workbench, scooped up Paige's breast and rolled back to plop them back on her chest. Paige's head let out a loud squeak of surprise at Alfred's agility while he used his tool on her chest.
"There we go!" he exclaimed while helping Paige's body prop itself up right on the table. "Now then..." Alfred raised from his chair and walked back over to Paige's head, picking it up and holding it face to face with him. "Did you have anymore questions before we start working on you?"
"Oh hm.." Paige rolled her eyes in thought until she thought of something to ask. "Oh! Yes. I just want to know what sort of things my body will be doing for you."
"Ah yeah, you'll mostly just be fetching me tools and holding things while I do my work. Would you prefer you only assist me while working on your head or would you like to join me while I work with other customers?"
"Oh! That sounds awesome!" Paige's head excitedly proclaimed. "Oh, were you going to put my clothes back on for me?"
Alfred nodded. "If you wanted me too"
Paige's head blinked curiously at that response. "If I wanted you too?"
"Well as long as you don't go wandering out into the front lobby, clothes is entirely optional"
"Oh that's kind of cool!" Paige gasped with a giddy flutter. She then suddenly got an idea. "Hey since you recommended me using it earlier, would you mind working with my body to do it?"
Alfred was taken back at the question the head in his hands just asked. "Oh uh, yeah sure. I can do that for ya. Anything else I should know?"
Paige's head just smiled. "Nope, just have any sort of fun you want! And make sure I learn a thing or two while my body assists you"
Alfred gave a smile back, turning her head to the side in his hands. "Will do, I'll see you in working condition in a few days" As he said this, his fingers made his way to the underside of Paige's head. Alfred carefully guided his fingers to find a specific switch. With a simple flick, Paige's eyes seemed to drift in an unfocused stare, still giving a bright smile. Alfred then placed the now 'turned off' off back on his work bench and turned to the nude body sitting on the table. "Aright, Paige, you can still understand me?" He asked as he began to pull the tape off her body. Paige's body eagerly lifted up her arm and gave the shop owner a thumbs up. "Alright, good! Let's get you ready to assist me for the next few days"
With all the silver tape off her body, Paige hopped off the table stood in front of Alfred. He looked her from neck to toe to make sure everything was running. "Ah yes, how about this?" Alfred untied the apron he wore and pulled it off. He then placed it around Paige's neck and tied it in the back for her. "There, you look the part of an assistant now" Alfred held out his arm as Paige linked arms with him. "This is going to be a nice few days, for sure"
The two walked out of the room, Alfred with a proud strut and Paige with an excited sway. They had a full day of work ahead of them. Paige was only Alfred's first customer of that day.

I'm honestly fascinated by the world you're creating here. Every new story is just another bit of lore. It's interesting how modular people in this world are not really human but not exactly robots either. Hell, they're not even really cyborgs, they're something else entirely.
There's a body part industry where people can just rent out parts of their body or even their entire body for a little extra cash, and other people can just come in and buy them. People can have themselves taken apart and shipped through the mail to friends and family who can put them back together. The modular people need to be examined by a specific professional more in the vain of a mechanic rather than a normal doctor.
And on top of all this is just the nonchalant attitude surrounding it all. Like all of this is sort of weird but everybody just goes with it. I think back to Down in the Dumps when the main character, Alice explains how her boyfriend got bored of dating her, packed her up in a box, and left her in the middle of a junkyard; but she plays it off like it's just sort of a dick move rather than a really messed up thing to do to another human being. I find that the most interesting aspect of this world's inhabitants, the fact that they seem to view themselves as property. These bio-mechanical, barely human people can easily live an autonomous, independent life but are totally open to being sold to other people or being stuffed in a box and shipped to someone's house like a piece of furniture. Not to mention, they see being thrown away like garbage as just kind of rude rather than dehumanizing.
Maybe I'm looking too much into this, but nonetheless, I find this universe you've thought up to be one of the most interesting I've ever come across and I'd love to see you flesh it out even more.
TL;DR cool story bro keep up the good work.

Nice concept. I remember a cartoon having a similar premise. It would be interesting to see the guy doing repairs on body parts like a girl who can't keep her head on or a guy who's arms are not working. I have so many odd ideas for sequels.

I find it amusing that she cut him off at the age part; it's almost like she knew there were readers she could frustrate that way, or a writer that didn't feel like coming up with a number. Knowing about one would more or less require knowing about the other.

Heh, I do like to keep things open ended. It's a bit of an on going thing with my stories.

Another part I liked: the fact that she specifically walked to the body shop. If she'd driven, it would have rendered her failure to notice she couldn't see green rather implausible.

A very casual relationship, and you never tell us what she is! There is no hint of ownership, or fealty to an other? not sure it's needed? the way you put everything else? just curious! I think I will watch you for a bit? your thought patterns are not just strange, but word usage is different than I expected.
Nice short one, nothing missing If you discount the above.

I'm glad you liked the story. As for what Paige is, she's a person. Not different from any other person. I'm just setting up more of a world where this sort of casual strangeness is the social norm. Just think of this story like a trip to the doctor, except the doctor is actually a mechanic and patients are cars. But they're still people, too.

I have been fixing cars and old aircraft for umpty years, and the tone of the presentation was very close to that experience. Humanoid? very advanced cyborg? The factory that puts these out can NOT be efficient! as each unit needs to be unique enough to build a personality of its own.
I know! I am being nit-picky! sorry it's just that you hit on several plot lines I am working on, and your treatment of the relationship between the customer and the techie Is making things difficult. In that Now I want to go that way, and what has preceded , is making the transition clumsy.
I must keep reminding myself that we are volunteers at this, and must enjoy the problem solving part of it to see the value in it as even a pass time. You get in the groove and are laying out some text that flows and even the invite to " come to bed Dear! " goes unheeded. I listen to the tone of voice, and if she sends the dog to fetch me she is serious.
I am rattling! shame on me ! Mo Scotch please!
Bye for now!

Your story postings may be rare, but they're also quite the treat when the do show up. This one is no exception. I love the nonchalance of it all. "Just a routine checkup, with a rider that lets us keep your head in the shop for a few days while we get parts. Nothing unusual here."
