This is a very powerful piece. It's a ravaged flower that still looks so beautiful...I don't think you can get more contrary than that! I don't know enough about the technicalities of photography to say if this is perfect, but to my mind it is! IMO, photography is as much about the aesthetic and emotional appeal of a piece as it is about the technical merits and I think you've scored big on those counts. Congratulations on your DD...you totally deserve it!

Beatiful indeed. This is very well composed, I particularly like that you positioned you copyright tasetfully - as opposed to the obscene monsters that destroy so many great photos online. The sense of a ghostly wind blowing is what I get from the petal position. The DoF is also top-notch

Thank you so much! The watermark is a tough thing...I wish I could exclude it entirely but you know how it goes.
Zephyr is actually the Greek God of the western wind which is where the name came from. Thanks again for your comment and favorite!

This is such a beautiful photograph in my opinion. First of all I really like the conversion to black and white. I think it compliments and shows off the shadows and highlights a bit more, which really makes the flower look "dead". It gives it feeling and emotion, and draws you toward the photo. I like how the petals point either towards the edge of the photo creating tension, or lead you into the center, depending how you really look at it. Great focus too, the stem almost looks like smoke going towards the flower. I also really love the lighting, is it natural, or from a lamp or something? These are the kinds of photos I joined DA to see.

Firstly, I can't thank you enough for this and your comments on other images of mine today. I really appreciate you taking the time to look at and think about my work. Comments like these make all the hard work alot easier.
The lighting I am currently using is a bit experimental; a combination of LED and LEC lights. Once I got a handle on how to use these lights together I really fell in love with the end results. One of the best parts is that these lights are much more efficient and, more importantly for my sake, are also a cold light source.
Formerly I used varying combinations of incandescent bulbs which produce alot of heat and need to be replaced quite frequently. Also, because I shoot smaller subject matter, it was often quite difficult to properly diffuse incandescent bulbs and still get the dynamism I wanted.
After alot of research I found several possible solutions, such as the Novoflex Fibre Optic cold light source, but it was (and still is) far too expensive for me. After alot of trial and error with the aforementioned combination of relatively inexpensive LED and LEC lights, I found a compromise I could live with.
Sorry for the long explanation, but I like talking about it!
Again, thank you SO much for your comments today. It was a very pleasant surprise.
Be well,
Ryan

No problem, I not only love writting these comments to let the person know that I acctually look at details but everyone should write these kinds of comments on work that deserves them. And thank you for such a nice answer to my question!

I couldn't agree more, but am also guilty of the "fav and run". I must try to break myself of that because a heartfelt comment really does mean more than just a favorite alone. You are both wise and talented beyond your years.
Be well,

Thank you very much! The title and composition are a reference to the Greek god of the west wind, Zephyr:
"Zephyr was the Greek god of the west wind, which was considered the gentlest wind, especially if compared to the colder north wind, Boreas. The warm west wind brought the spring season. Even today the name of the god means a warm and light breeze.
Zephyr was the father of two immortal horses, Xanthus and Balius. Their mother was the Harpy, Podarge. The Harpies were terrifying and greedy monsters with the head and trunk of a woman and the tail, wings, legs and talons of a huge bird.
Zephyr was attracted to the Harpy Podarge while she was grazing beside the Ocean after having transformed herself into a splendid young female horse. The gods gave the two horses, as a wedding present, to Peleus, the father of the famous hero Achille. Xanthus and Balius became the loyal companions of Achille helping him in numerous battles. "
Thanks again for your support!

Ryan

I know what you mean. I hate to do it in the first place, but feel the need to watermark my work anyway. The problem with a shot like this one is the predominant black space wherein adding a watermark is futile. I might try a different placement and re-upload when I find some time. Thanks for the comment!
Be well,
