Actually it's Zoro. America saw fit to change his name for some reason - 3- Companies over here have a tendency to change the Rs in names to Ls.

The english translation is Zolo and 4Kids calls him Zolo because they:
a) assume through the Japanese phonics that "ro" means "lo" because that is how the Japanese pronounce "ro" is "lo".
b) 4Kids couldn't used Zoro because of copyright issues, so they made it "Zolo". However, Eiichiro Oda has confirmed that he was named after the infamous swordsman, Zoro.
His name is supposed to be Zoro, but I guess it all depends on which version (Japanese or English) you prefer.
