Paired or alternating plates: Which is more likely?

in the first thyreophora are paired, and also the osteoderms in the ankylosaurs, but in the stegosaurs the use of plates as display or panel should make more likely an alternating disposition.

I thank you all for the usefull and interesting discussion. I agree with Thedinorocker and Oxalaiaq: there aren't evidences about, but hypotheses, so the xenarthra-like feathers on the thyreophora cannot be applicable as rule for the reconstruction. However, as it is a plausible hypothesis, I will submit a second version, hoping to meet the will of Tigon1MonsterΒ Β

Seen Haghani's Miragaia, didn't you? I've read that skin impression from stegosaurids show scales.

It is a good and valid hypothesis, makes a lot of sense and since the LCA (last common ancestor) probably had feathers it is possible to think that way. But it is not 100% certain, so it open to the artist decide what integument it will use in the restoration.
Thanks for sharing this post it is a very interesting one.
