Good to know:
-If you reduce the size of your drawing by 50% [e.g. 2000pixel to 1000pixel] it will look better
- Be patient! If you get sad because it does not work at all stop drawing and try later when you feel better (that’s what I do, because I get sad way to easily xD)
-Look at your drawing after 24hours past-> is there anything you don’t like now?->change it! :3
-Use as many layers as you like. Often it’s easier to draw on different layers.
-The Gimp is for free! Anyone can download and use it!

I love this tutorial! I've been using it to try and teach myself how to digitally paint. The only thing I'd have to say is that some of the more important steps should be broken down a little more. For example, from steps 4 to five, even though I read your description, I can't seem to figure out exactly what you did or even how you made that iris so incredibly detailed. Or from steps 7 to 8, again I do read your description but I can't quite get how the lid became so instantaneously realistic! Maybe it's just me and I'm an idiot

I only used black in step 5. Like it's said in the tutorial... try drawing something that looks like a star with lots of spikes.
and once with 50% go from the uper left side to the right side of the whole eye so you will get something like a shadow 
just try out! i bet you'll get it the way you want it to look.
maybe you could pick the colors i used and draw it just the same as my eye for the first time, so you get a clue how it works and then you can draw it yourself with other colors and it will just look awesome
