Is anyone else wonder hw in 'Last Train for Christmas', they were completely covered in snow, but when it was cleared off, their lights were on and they were ready to go?

Maybe they had their generators turned on?
I know some passenger cars had axle-driven generators that supplied electricity to the on-board lighting in the old days
Now, it's all done with diesel and electric power from the locomotives.

Why would their generators be of if they weren't in use and, from the looks of it, if they sat there for a while.
