'Smudger crossed the old iron bridge, on his way to a small halt on the otherside. Rusty had shown him the right way, it even embarassed Smudger when he had to be stopped from going onto the wrong line. The diesel had left Smudger at the last junction, saying it was a straight shot to the halt. He still had doubts as his role as a steam engine, it still felt like he was one slip-up away from being turned back into a genorator; behind the shed, he would never move again.

Smudger arrived at the halt and the workmen started unloading the train. One of the men appreached Smudger, presumably the one in charge.
"Thank you for bringing these so quickly." He praised. "You're a really useful engine."
A really usefull engine..... The words echoes in Smudger's smokebox. He couldn't remember the last time he heard those words being spoken to him; he doubted that they ever were. Perhaps things would be better on this new railway with the strange buzzing boxes and the red engine that look like him, but blushes around the angry blue engine with the pink stuff on her lips.
Smudger contiued on the day doing odd jobs when needed. He returned to the sgeds that evening where Mr. Percival was waiting.
"You did good today Smudger," Said the thin controller. "Tomorrow, you will be working with Duke. He'll be teaching you about pulling passengers,"
Smudger froze; Working with Duke? Smudger would never be prepared for doing such a task, even after a thousand years.'

Things are building up! Will Smudger be able to handle working with Duke after all those years?
