Description
I saw this meme on DA, and felt it would be a nice idea to jog my creative mind! I've been a little stuck recently, and its good to reflect on all of the influences you've had over the yearsWarhammer - I was a nut on table top games of Warhammer 40,000, and even more I poured over the massive codex journals and artwork. A lot of my art and writing aped Warhammer for a long time.
Rodney Matthews - When I was younger I would look over Matthew's art book "Last Ship Home" among others for hours. Incredible art from the 1980s
Mucha - Mostly representing my love for traditional, classical artwork, but Mucha is a recent addition.
HR Giger - from an obsession with the Alien films, I find Giger's truly warped and controversial work inspiring to attempt the improbable.
Luis Royo - the high fantasy/sci fi and erotica artist's work was something I aimed high to mimic through my late teens, early 20s. Precision work with airbrush and oils that I respect.
Comic - who isn't drawn to the often outlandish character designs and colour use in comics?
Neon - I am a sucker for glowing things, hence TRON.
Cyberpunk - Massively influential with virtually everything I do; I was brought up on films like Terminator and Strange Days, visuals like Ghost in the Shell always inspire me.
Alan Lee - On a more fantasy note, I loved Alan Lee's illustrations for Lord of the Rings.
Skan Srisuwan - I wish I knew how he can do these incredible digital paintings.
Drew Struzan - Before even knowing his name, I would mimic is works with Star Wars posters with my own book front covers. Single images telling completed stories.
Syd Mead - Sleek, stylish, physical and futuristic. Ever since the Light Cycles in TRON, I admire Mead's draftsmanship.
Video games - So, so many pieces of art for video games are incredible these days, telling stories and expressing characters all on their own through design and composition.
Have a go at the meme; it can be quite revealing if you dig hard enough
