Description
Despite Oliver Cromwells high amount of activity on the railtour scene of late, the 20th February was the first time I ever saw her. She was due to head a railtour into Manchester Piccadilly at one stage, however that was later curtailed to Sheffield due to "gauging issues". So that weekend I took every oppertunity to shoot her, I have no idea when I'll get to see her again.British Rail Britannia Class 7P 4.6.2 number 70013 "Oliver Cromwell" brings a southbound train from Rawtenstall into Ramsbottom station on the East Lancashire Railway.

Nice shot of Cromwell. Hope to see her at the weekend on a Liverpool Street - Cleethorpes Special.

Nice!
Though I wonder what gauging issues are as well...

I wonder if it was the platforms at Manchester Piccadilly that turned it away, though that theory may be in doubt as another steam tour is due to use Piccadilly this spring/summer. As Manchester Piccadilly underwent a huge regeneration around the time of the advent of privatisation, the width of the platforms may have been narrowed slightly so to allow modern rolling stock, but to relegate steamers. Interestingly, Piccadilly underwent this regeneration as part of a plan to bring the Eurostar to Manchester, which never actually happened, but may now happen again with the HS2 plan...

How would narrower platforms relegate steamers? Or did you mean decreasing the distance between train and platform edge?

Distances between the platform edge and train is what I meant yes. Maybe I should have said "widened"...
