Description Part 1 -

Seen at Railfest 2012, ex-GWR 0.6.0PT number L94 wearing London Transport lined maroon stands next to Metropolitan Railway electric locomotive number 12 "Sarah Siddons", preserved in LT Lined Maroon also.

In a strange phenomena however, the electric locomotive turns out to be the older machine. Number 12 was ordered in 1922 as part of a batch of 20 locomotives built by Metropolitan Vickers to replace a fleet of earlier 1906/1907 machines built by Westinghouse and British Thompson Houston, whilst reusing various components recovered from the older stock. They ran from Aldgate to Rickmansworth right up until 1962, when electrification was extended to Amersham and the now increasingly defunct A60/A62 Stock was first introduced. 2 were preserved, number 5 "John Hampden" is located in the London Transport Museum at Convent Garden and number 12 "Sarah Siddons" is in full working order, and as such is used regularly on railtours along the Met, and on other 3rd rail lines in the Greater London area.

The steam loco is a GWR 5700 Class Pannier Tank 0.6.0, built between 1929 and 1950, with number 7752 being built by North British of Glasgow in 1930. 7752 lasted beyond nationalisation until 1959 in British Railways ownership, when alongside 12 other locos in total she was sold to London Transport for use on the Metropolitan Line pulling freight trains and departmental workings. L94 was also the final steam loco to operate on the Met on June 6th 1971, after which it was preserved along with 15 other classmates from the original 5700 series. 7752/L94 was outshopped in her LT guise in late 2011, and is also mainline certified. Based at Tyseley Locomotive Works the engine has operated a few double headed tours with a fellow pannier tank 9600, also of the 5700 series.

They're both very pretty looking engines in their LT liveries for sure. Particularly the pannier, I love panniers in LT maroon.

Yes, being a staunch LMS man I'm usually neutral on Panniers, but seeing that machine in Maroon changed my mind
