Description
To coincide with my 24th birthday (for those who don't know, it's March 2nd, if you don't do dates no fear, DA will tell you next year) I procured a brand new laptop (photos to follow shortly), with quadruple the memory of my old one and double the speed and HDD space. This meant I could invest in some new photo editing software, the camera data section on this image should say what I'm now rocking. One feature of this new software is built in HDR rendering, which uses a single image and adds a HDR effect to bring the photo more to life. So I used a particularly dull and overexposed shot of BR 8P 4.6.2 number 71000 "Duke Of Gloucester" standing at Irwell Vale on the East Lancashire Railway to experiment with this new feature. This was the result. Opinions?

Superb results! The composition of this shot is great, and the HDR effect really punched it up. What software did you use?

Thank you I used Abobe Photoshop CS5 to create this image, used the HDR Rendering tools to create depth and give life to the photo as a whole. Or at least try to.

i dont know what the old pic look like but this is really great.. love the scenre and the train.. And the smoke from the train doesnt cover the best parts of the shot.. Would have been great if you could have gotten all of that and more of a side shot of the train.. But still a great pic..

HDR Done right- Rather then looking surreal and unnatural, that picture brings out the power and elegance of the Duke perfectly
Brilliant work!

She was purchased from Dai Woodham in 1974, and took 13 years to restore to near as built condition. She did suffer a failure relating to leaking boiler tubes in 2007, returning to traffic post overhaul in 2008, and has been in traffic ever since.

As a HDR photo, this is nothing special. BUT, if like you say, this photo was dull and over exposed then your software was a good investment. It has brought light, depth and colour to this

Stunning effect, Colin. The engine and coaches seem to leap out of the photograph.

Love the image! the contrast in colour is absolutely amazing! From this angle, there doesn't seem to be much damage to the front, but I've not seen any closer looks yet.
Thanks for the great image!

Why would there be damage to the front?
