Crewe Heritage Centre may have had the 9F, the Britannia class pacific and some more stuff besides, but the real excitement started outside of the centre at the south end of Crewe station.Numerous times during yard shunting duties at DRS Gresty Road depot, DRS will run a few locos out into the south bay at Crewe normally used for the Shrewsbury local services. This can be anything that the DRS fleet has to offer, and on this day we had two such shunting moves from DRS and one from Freightliner too.
Here we see a brace of three Class 20's moving away from the station heading back towards the depot. These machines date back to the very beginning of the BR Modernisation Plan, and were the first mass produced mainline diesel locomotives. Built to a standard of design set by the steam era, the locos have only one cab, and thus with a change in diesel locomotive designs with full cab fronts taking over from bonnet end fronts, they often work in pairs cab forwards at either end.
