Description acrylic on hardboard, 2'X2'

after ages I worked on hardboard, with acrylic. This is more an illustration to my article, than a proper painting.

that is the article on current events, background of this piece.

"free to choose...from the approved list"

"free to be...anything on this perfectly reasonable pre-selected set of expectations"

"free to express...whatever we feel is acceptable"

Excellent illustration to an excellent article, ckp! I especially love the icons and advertising that you've included as they seem to sum up a much larger picture that most people fail to see.

I will comment less on the technical aspects of this piece because i find it daunting and exhausting, yet i have done that to a similar painting some time ago
It's good that some people still see that our liberty is suffocated by the Great Empire of America. Not directly, but it seems that good capitalist inventions as advertising and political talkshows are going way over the extreme: Blocks of flats are covered with huge inestetic panels advertising the new flavours of "Extreme Chips", you can't turn on the tv whithout in a single moment a tv station wouldn't show some commercials, you can't navigate on the internet without a firewall because your computer gets infected with bugs that "collect your private data to deliver rich-media content which apply to your interest" etc. Why do you care of my interests? Did you ask me? Stop fucking (literally) with my brain and give those mind blowing obnoxious selfpublicity barrels away. I'm not saying i'm anti-whatever, but there are some limits to which you can tolerate the wonderful capitalism. In my country there is a vague law af BTL and ATL advertisng for instance. Who cares? Don't tell me those fat 70 years old politicians that have nothing better to discuss than how to increase their future retirements funds even more.

I must agree with a previous comment. Mcdonald's and other shopping malls do not belong to my city, hell most of the citizens here are quite poor, pretending not to be poor or hiding the wall of shame under the latest snobbish clothes and the rest of 5% is very rich. I usually visit Mcdonald's once at two weeks or so, i just love their Espresso. When i arrived there my mind got visually nuked with a whole set of strange people. Maybe it's me being antisocial, but i really felt then they were acting like americans. I got so sick, I wouldn't like to go in any other fast food now.
Loads of food. Have people heard about measure? Like eating the only thing worth living for.
Come, we have for everyone. This is America in a Nutshell, or like they call it the american dream. It's a country like any other with it's rich and poor people, with flaws corruption and everything. Why would you quit something you have in favour of something you'll never be
But sometimes man only wants to fight, no matter what the reason is, he'll find one

I agree that the capitalist project is going over te top in advertising and non-issue magnification.May be this has something to do with fear they manage to instil in their populations as well - fear of insecurity, alien ideologies and what not. Then one searches for starting war when there is none.

the logo of MCdonalds is so powerful... and meaningful... here in bolivia (i dont remember if i told you that im living in bolivia for the next 6 months) there used to be one... and rich people went there... it's strange because it's something so foreign, that has nothing to do with this place, it contains a lot of other meanings, a foreign country, foreign food, foreign ideas... and yet, people came here to eat... like they felt that way they would be a little less bolivian and more americans... i dont know... my cousins here refused to go there, and i think i was there once... its strange... when i was there it was like i was somewhere else but here, not in bolivia, like a bubble, an illusion of another world... it was creepy... i never came back. and this time, there's no more mcdonalds in here.

they put a burger king instead

Its a funny image for me, being from the UK, of rich people wanting to go to McDonald's. Here, McDonald's is generally seen as just a quick/cheap meal! Don't go there often, and wouldn't want to!

yes, in argentina, where i was born, it is also a cheap and fast place to go... but in bolivia it's such a different situation that even when the prices are similar, it's a luxury to eat there.

What kind of fascism is this? Every big city has foreign restaurants, some is good, some do not. Why you don't say nothing about indian, chinese or spanish restaurant? I think it is not the right way criticize it because it sells foreign food.

the concept of freedom that we have is like this cube of Escher. We are convinced to see the true things but observing well it is not so.

This has to be one of your more interesting paintings. I really think all the symbols fit in very well with the distorted cube. To me...society (all around the world)..has become somewhat distorted. Your use of angry colours also suits this painting very well. Well done!

I love the cube effect And the title is right... they'll never be properly compatible...
It reminds me of those adverts where they say "stand out, buy our product"... but that doesn't work conceptually. It's more "become the same, by buying our product and then u can have the misperception of being different/better"
This demonstrates to me the fact "free" society is mainly slaves but they don't really know it.

what you say is right -'free' is just in the name.If you cannot do a damn about being exploited, what use are cosmetic press freedoms and freedoms of expression?

The use is to other ppl. And as humans we like to be more secure, and predictableness gives us that.
