Description
oil on canvas, 300mmX300mm'Applying' is one of the most degrading, demeaning and dehumanising universal constructs of 'civilisation'.
In continuation with my earlier work, depicting an equally humiliating experience -
waiting

you couldn't have captured this experience better, the obsequious expression, wistful, hoping, anxious. It was clear to me before I read your artist's comments.

I adore the old man's expression. I just can't tell you how exactly it makes me feel. In addition to what I said, the window made sense to everything. Cool thing, this one.

There is something in the man's eyes that really tells the story. Nicely portrayed.

You show real emotion in this piece. You can see the pleading, the hope, the anticipation of the outcome.
Very bright, clear colours.

Very nice! You very successfully caught a lot of various emotion in the facial expression. I see eagerness, humility, and exhaustion. Maybe even a little defiance? Disgust?

Yes, it is a blatant manifestation of power, or rather, power imbalance. You rebel with your every grain, know that the pawn, the joker who is going to decide the fate of your application may be corrupt, incompetent, may be competent and yet having a bad day...I mean the very predicament of being at the wrong side of the table is immoral, a scandal, in real sense.
You resent your own helplessness in being in this situation, and act servile, appeasing...and loathe the person opposite.
I am glad that you discern all the shades in his face. Makes me really feel I did a good job in conveying the mix of emotions.
Thank you for yet another fine reading.

Sorry, I am not quite clear if you mean - expression of 'humanity' or 'humility'?

Humanity. Sorry if i didn't make myself clear. Basically I am referring to the persons face and eyes which seems to reflect that of very real person who is being confronted with a very difficult situation. He looks real and not as some drawings I have seen over the years that look stiff and lifeless with no facial expression at all. I think it is a very life like depiction full of human expression.

This is a perfect compliment to the painting you provided the link to, and I agree wholeheartedly. Waiting for a job interview is an excellent example of the optimism we're supposed to maintain, all the while admitting to ourselves that we're not as important as those we wait for.
I particularly loved the hopeful expression on the man's face. That was very well done!
