Description
A Series of Unfortunate Events, Book 6, The Ersatz Elevator.Esmé Gigi Geniveve Squalor, sixth-most important financial advisor in the city, takes the three Baudelaires to live in her luxurious penthouse at 667 Dark Avenue.I LOVE Esmé, even though she is a villain - her name is spelled Esme in the original but Esmé in the brazillian editions, and I like Esmé better -
I always imagined her with that sort of hairstyle and dark make-up, cuz you know, dark is 'in'.
Esmé's personality is terrible, as she is a snob, and only cares about being 'in' and avoiding 'out' things, money and doing evil things, but she's so eccentric and funny I cannot help but to love her.^^
I think either Helena Bonham-Carter would be perfect in a hypothetical TEE movie.
The Ersatz Elevator is my favorite in ASoUE so far, and she's a part of the reason why.Go Esmé!
Esmé Squalor belongs to Lemony Snicket (IRL Daniel Handler)

Pam Anderson? She's not an actress. She's a model with big boobs. I couldn't think of a person more ill-suited to play Esmé Squalor.

Yeah, Helena Bonham carter would be the perfect Esme.
Did you knew that helena Bonham Carter had protrayed Beatrice Baudelaire but she was uncredited?

Hello. It's Emma from 667 Dark Avenue. ^^
Once again, I'm head-over-heels IN LOVE with this piece, and I love Esme's salmon jewelry. She was my favorite aspect of TEE, and before she came along I didn't really have a favorite character.

I think it's better that you got into the books once the series was finished, rather than vice versa. I read one through ten, and then was forced to wait a year before TGG's release. By then, I'd lost interest, and two years passed before that interest returned. But it did, so I'm happy.

I first came into contact with ASoUE through the movie, but I had never heard of the series before or even seen a book, and a lot of time passed before I saw them, but I didn't really take a big interest until I found out there were ASoUEs at the college library, up to THH, and I read them, and got seriously hooked.I can only rest when I finish reading the series and own the 13 books and TUA.LOL
I grew up with Harry Potter so i know what it feels like waiting for books to be realeased. And now we all have to wait until Mr. Snicket releases his new series!I'm so anxious! lol I also wanna read Daniel Handler's adult novels, but they weren't published here yet T-T have you read them?

I actually came across ASoUE purely by accident, when I was browsing the bookstore. I was a pretty big Harry Potter fan at the time, and I thought Klaus bore a striking resemblance to him. I thought the storyline sounded interesting and different from all of the other books I'd ever read, so I decided to buy the first book. After that I was hooked, so when I went back I bought the next two books, followed by the 4-6 gift set, and so on. And you are very lucky in that your college supplies you and your fellow students with ASoUE books. No library can be complete without them!
I never finished reading Harry Potter, since the series was only up to the fourth (or was it the fifth?) book, which would've been back in 2003, I believe. So by the time the next book came out, I'd lost interest. But I think if I started reading them again, my interest would be renewed (that's what happened with ASoUE, after all).
I know. I'm really excited about Mr. Snicket's new series, and I'm hoping against hope that it will include characters from ASoUE. I haven't read Daniel Handler's adult novels yet, but I do own "Adverbs" and "The Basic Eight", which I do plan to read eventually. There was also another book of his that I want to read under Lemony Snicket, but I can't remember the name of it.

The college library only had ASoUE up to THH, so it was a bit frustrating when I finished that book but there wasn't any more of the series there.I just wonder who in their right mind would give up ASoUE books? I'm severely attached to mine, I can't barely part with them.
Oh I just re-read HP7 last week, and it reminded me why I like HP so much.I hope you'll read the rest of the books as the later ones are very good - and dark -
I guess I'll have to import Daniel Handler's adult novels.I hope the new series will bring more Quagmire action, as I really like them. They could have their own series of unfortunate events!even if it doesn't star the Quagmire triplets I'm sure Lemony Snicket will not disappoint us, and that might raise enough interest that they'll make another movie.
If they made a whole series of animated films it would be a HUGE success. Can you imagine? Esmé in 3D? seeing 667 Dark Avenue and the other locations brought to life? I would die of happiness - manner of speaking lol -
About the book you wanted to read, is it Horseradish - Bitter Truths You Can't Avoid, or The Beatrice Letters? The Composer is Dead, The Latke Who Couldn't Stop Screaming, The Lump of Charcoal...those are the ones i can think of right now.

It's terrible that your college library only had ASoUE up to THH. And you're absolutely right to question how anyone could give up on such a wonderful, imaginative series. And I'm attached to my books, too - especially my copy of TEE, which I got autographed last year when I met Daniel Handler at The Lump of Coal book signing in New Jersey. I gave him copies of the drawings I showed you of Esme, Jerome, and adult Carmelita, and he liked them. XD
Oh, I'm definitely planning on reading the remainder of the Harry Potter series. Though I'll probably start from the beginning, since it's been so long since I've read any of the books. One of the things I like about it is that the storyline matures as its readers mature.
It's good that you'll be able to import Daniel Handler's new novels since you can't get them where you are. It would be interesting to read more about the Quagmires, I agree, and I sincerely hope that the new books will involve other characters from ASoUE as well. I'm really, really hoping that the Squalors and Carmelita return, because I love them all so much.
There was a thread on 667 a while back with a link about another movie. I'm a HUGE fan of the "Coraline" film, so if they did something like that I would be ecstatic (the Other Mother looks a lot like how I picture Esme). And I would die of happiness, too!
No, the book I was thinking of isn't any of the ones you've mentioned, though I do own a copy of "Horseradish" (I still haven't gotten around to reading it, though, lol). All I know is that the book was one of Daniel's adult novels. I checked amazon.com to try and refresh my memory, but was unable to come across anything. Maybe if I check e-Bay I'll be able to find it.
