When I can get my copy of Photoshop to work, yes.
But if you use Paint Tool SAI, under the section of layers there is an option called "Luminance to Transparency" which will erase all white from the JPEG.

I just use the pen tool on Paint Tool SAI with my tablet, takes a lot of practice and a little bit of use of a line tool. Also good luck with colouring it, can't wait to see the outcome, and I'm glad you think it's cool!
