Description
Had to make this as soon I looked down at the comments.I remember People saying, "it better not be another New Super Mario Bros game, I want something like Mario 64 or Sunshine" "*give us Super Mario Galaxy 3 already!!!* " this one sounds familiar... roll on Super Mario Odyssey and....while most are trill to see this game (so am I!
People seem to forget...Mario himself is human (while looking a bit cartoony and short) his first few games were set in the real world (Donkey Kong, Mario Bros and handful of Game & Watch titles where Mario did lots of different jobs...a little bit like a old Popeye cartoon) also...this city level isn't the full game! XD there's lots of other interesting and more Mario like worlds in the game. not to mention...it's finally a huge open world type of 3D Mario game. not the arcade/2D Classic Mario style of the last 3D Mario games.
For me this SUPER awesome!
So yeah, don't get moaning like the "SonicFans" It's just one level, It could of be of one of Mario's more interesting fun adventures we had in awhile. as long they don't rush it though.
only one worries me however...where's Luigi at? XD don't let miss another 64 Adventure!

Sunshine's creativity was really unappreciated IMO... It's the disdain toward games like that and the SML games being "too wacky" which is what led us to the nostalgia pandering dark age of Mario IMO.

Sunshine's problems wern't being too different from other Mario games, it was it's lack of content and glitches that ruined it. Have their ever been any Mario games of the 2010s that are more glitchy and rushed than Sunshine?

Mario123311 In reply to ToxicIsland [2018-04-01 04:45:29 +0000 UTC]
As somebody who has played a lot of Sunshine, I don't recall any game-breaking or serious glitches or really MANY type of glitches at all, If anything 64 was a lot more glitchy from what I've noticed. Also Sunshine as far as I know, wasn't nessisarily rushed. Content was cut out but that was due to Nintendo enforcing a rather stupid design choice on the Gamecube (the smaller discs, which in turn affected disc space/storage and made a lot of developers unable to port their PS2 games to the console) and moreso overambition, much like say, Halo 2.
The game(s) that really started the dark age were no more than New Super Mario Bros 2 and U... Although 3D Land is "arguably" be when the fanbase started to split and become divisive. Games like Pac-Man World 3 suffered much more of a troubled development akin to Sonic 06 than Sunshine ever could, honestly.

Ever heard of the game Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly? THAT GAME is the deffinition of rushed development, loads of glitches, long loading screens which in turn have loading screens of their own, characters looking like muppets from hell, hard to catch baby dragonflys because of the glitchy bubble breath, only having 9 levels while the original trilogy's games had at least 25, only ONE hub world with Ripto being the only boss IN THE ENTIRE GAME! The list can go on of how crappy of a Spyro game it is. It's so bad it gave Spyro the reception of being the God of bag games, until Reignited Trilogy's announcement.

Mario Sunshine is nowhere near the quality of that. Granted I'm also somebody who see's Pac-Man World 3 better than any of the Ghostly Adventures sub-games despite how much shit it gets.

I know man, but this is Mario, I can understand with Sonic hasn't had the best rep for awhile (though I say it's building back up with Mania and Project 17. ) the problem Mario has, is playing it safe, the second he tries something new and different, people think this game is going suck, because it has a city (that isn't like 06's city, I mean this based on New York and has Donkey Kong stuff everywhere. XD ) and humans....because Mario doesn't fit in with them (despite being Human himself and lived in Brooklyn before, even the older games were set there)
top it all off...it's only the first trailer. XD

gamers r too picky sometimes, period. just because a new, upcoming game is different from the previous games, ppl immediately start hating it and assume itll be bad. but, at the same time, if they keep getting a game thats exactly the same to the previous ones over and over and over again, they demand there to be changes. like god, damn if u do, damn if u dont.
by the by, enough w/ the Sonic '06 hate! Jesus Christ, it wasnt that fucking bad! i'll agree the...thing between Sonic and Elise was weird, but overall it was a good game. was it the best? no, of course not, but ppl say it's the worse Sonic game ever when it really isnt. every person i ever asked "Why do you think it's such a bad game?" it's always the same whiny bullshit: "It's glitchy", "The loading takes forever", "The camera controls is retarded and keeps fucking me up!", "What the fuck is going on between Sonic and Elise?!", blah blah blah. another game could have the same issue(s) and ppl could/would still love it. ive pretty much given up on arguing w/ them because these ppl tend to focus on gameplay whereas i focus on story. if the story is phenomenal, but the gameplay/controls is awkward or whatever the case, i'd still love the game. to me, good gameplay is just a bonus. games, just like movies/shows and books, r suppose to be STORY-DRIVEN! but i get it...it's a game and ppl want easy, manageable controls. it's a shame though that a majority of the time the story is completely overlooked... u could ask a gamer "Oh hey, I've heard good things about this game, but I'm not sure it'll be my kind of thing... Can you tell me what it's about?" and almost none of them, but hardcore gamers that focus on both controls and the story, could give u a straight answer

Agreed!
Sonic 06 wasn't the only game with a city (even then, 06's one looked nothing like New York/Dork City ) and to be honest, I enjoyed it for it was, I mean unlike Unleashed you had to play as the were-hog to play the normal Sonic levels, in 06 you choose who you wanted to play as, and get a ending, it's why I like Sonic Adventure 1 over Sonic Adventure 2.
A story can be good, but if the gameplay is fun that's what makes a game (for Sonic 06 isn't that bad, UNLESS you go digging for problems. >.<...half of that is fun really in the glitches breaking rules and such. ) Mario has always had great gameplay, it's what makes Mario, though I would love if they tried to add bit more of a story this time. (like the old Mario Anime movie or even the Adventures of Super Mario 3, have Mario talk with characters)
Because the story can make the world more alive, just don't turn it into a interactive movie there's too many of those. >.< like a movie you only really need to see it once.

yea, a game shouldnt have more cutscenes than actual levels, but i dont really mind games that have interactions within cutscenes (Minecraft: Story Mode for example). my issue is those games feel short because the game is comprised of a bunch of cutscenes and theres little to no levels...so it's like, before u know it, it's over and youre thinking to yourself "thats it? i didnt even get to fully enjoy it!". it's different if it's a game thats meant to be short and played within a few hours of gameplay (Undertale for example), but theres a lot of games that guides u through the entire game and it's so easy...u finish it in about the same time as u would a game thats meant to be short and theres no challenge in it. like they repeat themselves "I should do this" over and over and maybe say "I think I saw the objective in the other room"...it's like damn, let me find it on my own!

SADX and SA2B were awesome games indeed! but people seem to like to remember 06 more then anything. >.<
also Sonic 1 had two city levels (Star Light and Spring Yard Zones) but you don't see people saying "it looks like Sonic 1...." 06 only flopped due to being rushed and having that "Save the princess, time traveling " plot but Mario has been doing that since 1981 basically (with out the Time Traveling stuff ) and Nintendo never rush their games. only time I can think of was Mario Kart 7, even then, it was awesome still (lack of Waluigi though, despite having his head in that Pinball level )

At least someone is optimistic about this new Mario game.
I don't know why people are moaning about it since the city level with realistic characters is only one of many parts of the game and they think that alone will make it as disastrous as Sonic 06. Just because one part of it looks similar to Sonic 06, that doesn't mean the whole game will be like it. These people should at least play the game before fully ranting on it (just like they say, never judge a book by the cover).
I think people are being negative for no reason whatsoever.

That's my point! and still the New Donk City stage seems to be a homepage to the Jumpman Donkey Kong days, (infact it may be based on that city level from Donkey Kong land 1, which would explain all the Donkey Kong Country names everywhere)
it's still very early too, I mean this the first proper trailer of the game (with a belief look in the first Switch trailer ) I think your right, people just using this game as excuse to be negative.

You could be right there.
I remember one title for a video, "Switch is a flop...but Mario Odyssey PS4 would be nice?!" WAT?! this has a solid chance of being huge, if they sort out the price (which I have notice some of the games are slightly been re price to something more reasonable. ) and giving us Gamecube games to keep us busy intill the new games come round.

Sega has been doing that since 2000s though! XD I mean it was because of SEGA I wanted a GBA so badly just to play Sonic Advance on the go, and had me interest in the Gamecube with Mega Collection, Sonic adventure 1 and 2 Battle. (if you add Gems Collcetion to that list, Gamecube nearly has all the main classic and Dreamcast Sonic games up to Sonic Heroes....and Shadow/Sonic Riders)
I still hope SEGA get their plans together and make the next SEGA console one day, one day. (intill then I'm enjoying the Nintendo and Sega team up! X3 )

To be honest, the worst was turning over to PlayStation (which why I hate the fact, I got a PS2 instead of a Dreamcast or at least Gamecube with Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 ) their reason Dreamcast bombed. yeah it had DVD player but it was Dreamcast. >.< ( even in the 90's I took MD over a PS1, the SEGA games were just better. )
The Wii U deal thing was a bummer though :/ the only good games on it were Sonic Advance set (but only sold in Japan's Eshop....WHY!?!? ) Lost World was the one game that humiliates Sega (as Sonic Team wanted to make it for Mario players) but Gamecube era was solid (to me it has the best set of Sonic games) as for the original wii....I blame the wii remote, just give us full control not Arcade on rails rubbish. >.< even Mario Galaxy got that right.
