Description I only rode behind Richard Jensen's high stepping ex-GTW Pacific 5629 twice. Both were beautiful days and fine experiences. It's sad what happened to his engines. The story can be found here: [link]

This is a companion shot to Rush Hour .

Thankfully, her sister #5632 (ironically) survives.

Wow, and I thought all the bureaucratic red tape about running steam engines was a new thing. Those are some sad stories about those locomotives.

Follow the link in the artist comments and read the sad tale of how this engine came to die.

Thanks. The thing I find impressive is the finely spoked driver centers. What a contrast to the very heavy looking Box-Pox castings on 4-8-4 #5632 .

I don't know if I want to follow the link, I fear it may depress me.

Even since I was a kid in the '80s, riding excursion steam with my parents, I've noticed a decline in the number and quality of the excursion railroads.

Here's to hoping that a new generation of people have the time, money, know-how, and passion, to keep running and maybe even restore these wonderful animals.

You are right on all counts. I only put the link there because a couple of people asked about the fate of these engines.

Gorgeous. The engine may be gone but at least there's folks like you who preserve it's memory with great photos.
