Description
Thanks to jimmy who guessed wrong but sent me on a web search that led me to the identity of this engine. It's a Whitcomb 65 tonner. More info at NorthEast.Railfan.net .I spotted it in a Materials Service Corporation quarry on a trip to Joliet station in the late 1960's. At the time I didn't know the locomotive manufacturer or model.
I always took it as a bit of a personal challenge to seek out the unusual and since industrial lines like this had no schedule and often had well secured property it was tough to get a picture. I remember seeing MSC units in this color scheme while riding C&NW commuter trains in Elmhurst too.
Sister #0145 on the dead line a couple of years later.

I agree with jdawg and Sully both. It has trucks that suggest Alco, but a carbody that could go towards either Alco or Baldwin both.
The fuel tank shaping and configuration also show that it could even be a potentially early EMD GP model.

Best I could tell you is it looks like a 44-tonner. But then again, it's not. Nice find though. Have you tried inquiring on Railroad.net?
