Description I whine about the UP absorbing and repainting the C&NW equipment but it pays to remember that the NorthWestern itself had chewed up predecessor Minneapolis & St. Louis years earlier in 1960... much to the resentment of M&StL fans.

Here on the deadline in the C&NW's Proviso Yards in 1969 sit a string of old Alco RS1's... painted yellow and green but still carrying their original numbers and cab labels clearly showing the heritage.

There's another rolled up radiator cover!

I don't believe I have ever seen a 4 axle RS-1, but here is a nice matching pair of RSD-1s at my local RR museum!

Nice, I always wanted to see an RS-1, to compare with the followers we had here

RS1s are the sexiest ALCOs ever.. right ahead of yellow and green high hood C628s.

Quite honestly, I don't even attempt to know who absorbed who and merged with whom...

I don't know why I remember this stuff... but I do. It's not conscious. I think Dereck is the same way.

It's a different thing when one lives where it happens, but for an outsider, there is just an overwhelming number of former railroad companies and abbreviations.

I LIKE that locomotive for some reason. So clean for a deadlined unit. I wonder where it is now.

I must have snapped this in it's last days. According to the roster info I have found it was "Retired Jan 1969. Traded to EMD, February 1969, scrapped by late April 1969"

That's sad, but predictable.
