And i already thought that Ewan became the inventor. Well, from another hand if something useful falls from space why not to take it?

Maybe it was just a regular space-toaster when he first scavenged it, then he duct taped the talk-good parts on himself.

I thought it was a recording device so he could study and learn the bug-people's language over time. This seems too much like magic in my opinion. Then again, sufficient enough technology is indistinguishable from magic, and a lot of technological break-throughs could have occurred before the world went to shits.

universal translators happen a lot in sci fi and I'm not big on using heavily explained principles in my storybased comics for fear of dragging the story down with them. Sort of working on a Doctor Who style understanding of technology here.
Sorry about that sometimes being vastly dissatisfying.
I agree though, him learning the Bug language over time would have been cool. Something of a missed opportunity there.

Only slightly dissatisfying. I'll be able to live with it quite easily. I mean, I'm not going to complain about it after the whole thing with the Ebon Spire. He could have looted all sorts of weird gizmos from that thing. They must've had some stuff there that lets beings from different planets and dimensions understand each other.
