Description
Beware: enormous download file.During my somewhat short amount of time with minecraft I have explored and accomplished a lot. I thought it was time to sum up what I've done so far with a map. Why don't I explain a little about the things I've shown here in my world?
Lost Jungle: named for how absolutely lost I got the first time I came here.
Castle Prower: My first real base. After a large amount of screwing around, not knowing the first thing I should do (also thinking that beating trees with dirt would help break down the trees faster XD) I built countless directionless tunnels underneath my spawn island. As soon as I found some iron I crafted a bucket and found some lava. I thought it would be awesome to pour lava over a tree to make a lava tree (it was, but caused a bit of havoc) later I poured water over it to turn it into cobblestone. And so, the skeleton for my castle was born.
Castle Prower now holds the greatest majority of valuables in my world and is also the hub for the great transit skyway.

Space Needle: Being the air elemental and sky builder that I am, I needed to build a tower that kissed the sky. It's here I had my first real experience with building circular structures. Kinda a pain when you have OCD about symmetry Unfortunately, it's a lot smaller than I wanted. I wanted it to be about 3 times wider. I also wanted to go with a cafe look, but I'm not sure how I'd manage that. XD This tower is connected to Castle Prower by the Great Transit Skyway.
Video tour of both the Grand Transit Skyway and the space needle here: [link]
Frost Mountains: I climbed out of the hole that my portal from the nether put me in
Hill Island: After growing bored of my current location on Prower island, I decided to head out to sea to find a new and interesting land. I found Hill Island. Though it wasn't a lot, I saw potential in this island and began building my shelter (which got swarmed that night ). It wasn't long after I built my shelter that I saw a video of the "X system", and the mining shaft that went with it, of the brilliant LPer "X". I loved his design and decided to use it. At least, some of it. I build a replica of the X-light 9000 and his mining shaft that went under it.
Traps are the main focus of this island. Death traps of all assortments litter this island making quick work of monsters and animals alike. It has everything from a simple lava pillar to a semi-complex water trap to a lovable landmine.
Hill Island is connected to Castle Prower by the Great Transit Skyway.
Video tour: [link]
Biome Planes: My first real portal out of the nether into a new land. I actually didn't stay long the first time, because it seemed lacking in interestingness.
Eventually, I came back and built a new shelter into a nearby hill. Around this area is also where I met Kyle the Friendly creeper.
Video tour of this plus Underice base and zombie processor: [link]
Zombie Processor: After seeing this video [link] I decided I wanted one too. XD The original attempts were a little rough, but it eventually became an extremely valuable place in my world considering how much flint I pick up...until 1.8. Good think I still have a skeleton processor down below.
The sign reads "Zombie Processor KEEP OUT!"
Cavern of Fear: You know that feeling you get when you hear that "SSSSSsssssssssssssssssss"? Just looking at this place put me into a constant feeling like that. Something about it just put me so on edge that I hid in a small shelter I built out of panic nearby well into the day. When I go inside I can hear them...everywhere...I just can't find them...it's like they're right next to me, but I can't see them! Where are they?! I hear you!
Under Ice base: The thought hit me. I need an underwater- no...an under ice base! This was a huge pain to dredge out.
Anyway, After seeing yet another video ( I know, I take too many ideas from outside sources DX) I wanted to build a staircase to the bottom of the earth, hoping to find a cavern, so I built it into the side of the under ice base. No luck first try, so I decided to do it in all directions. Still nothing. After that I connected all the staircases together by going to the side by 1 block and heading in the opposite direction. I plan to make some sort of science facility down there.
Video tour: [link]
Spaceship Mountain: Not much to say about this one. I saw it while investigating an unusual red mark on the normal version map (lava) and I found this. I must explore this more in the future.
The design of this map is, of course, inspired by [link]

Ah yeah. It's really a fun project. I might make something of a city in the "mainland" as I call it (where the cavern of fear and the space needle are). Not sure what I'll do with it...hmm maybe a town...yeah, I like that.

That is pretty cool. Personally I'm bad at using the vastness of the world to my advantage, and instead start a new world when I get bored of the current one, though I've tried to redeem that a bit. Looking at this map makes me want to play Minecraft again, I've neglected it for a few weeks.

Usually my bases are unique because they are built to suit the very unique landscape. I try using round rooms as often as I can. I also have a small list of rooms that each of my bases should have. The room list varies depending on what I'm building, too. Mansion, castle, facility, things like that.

Heh, I have ideas, but I tend to get bored before I get to finish them. Most of my recent plans have stalled in the planning phase.
Once we get Nether in SMP, I'm going to make ruined nether counterparts of things existing in the normal cubeworld.
I'm also going to be making dungeons that have themes, such as elements. I've also been on an obstacle course server (classic mode). It has been rather inspirational to me. My current project that I should finish is the Sunwell, though.

Well, water dungeon would be built in a vast ocean, with several waterfalls and possibly boat puzzles to progress. I've even thought about artifically making the water dungeon tower raise out of a giant whirlpool.
Fire dungeon will be lit with burning netherstone and will have lavafalls and pools. Possibly a few corridors completely on fire. Some lava pools could be made crossable by removing a torch somewhete, which in turn unleashes water on the lava pool.
Air dungeon is a floating island with lots of pitfalls and tricky jumps. It will also be mostly made out of glass.
Earth temple... Well, I can't think of much for that place. Only gravel and sand piles held up by torches. Removing the torches reveal new paths.
Death temple (which I've already started in friend's SMP server) has a dark motif. Lots of large, unlit caverns with the walkways going near the ceiling, the dark, gaping void opening below. The entrance to it is in the mouth of a giant skull. Already my friends have commented it being scary, even though SMP monsters didn't exist back then.
Light dungeon... Not much there. I'm planning on it being a huge maze, but one needs the watch to navigate it. Several holes from the ceiling provide either daylight or torchlight. During the night, some of the holes no longer provide light. People will have to travel the maze by following the lit paths.
Ice dungeon... A castle completely made out of ice blocks. I may not end up doing this because unless I cheat with the ice blocks, it's really hard to make.
Forest dungeon. Essentially a garden. Not much to do there.
I'd probably have nether versions of all the dungeons, too. I like "dark" copies of existing things. Just how I like floating islands.
Those are the elemental dungeons. I should also have a castle, a mansion and mines (like Phazon Mines from the first Metroid Prime game).
