I love the gold-on-black color scheme! You mentioned having difficulty with the paint--perhaps you might try putting golden patches of clay over the black and then painting them over with the gold? I'm not sure if this would work, but give it a try, I guess. It can't hurt.

That sounds like it would work and actually make it so I don't have to glaze it, but I don't think I could get as good markings if I did it that way, especially since I don't have the skill yet to make the clay that thin and not totally rip and shred it to pieces! D: The problem with my paint is that it was super thin because it's old and got water in it (also cheap), but I just bought some new high quality metallic gold paint that is much thicker and should cover in two coats max. Maybe someday I'll be able to sculpt the markings. Thanks for the help anyway!

Nice! If the paint turns out to be really good, could you tell me what the brand is? I'm always on the lookout for gold paint XD

I made another one of these guys and for the most part the paint covered it in one coat! There were a few spots here and there I had to touch up, but it was far FAR less than my other paint. It also dried quickly so I didn't have to wait very long to touch it up, but the few drops I was dipping my paintbrush in also dried fairly quickly. I mean it wasn't troublesome (I had plenty of time to finish the snake's markings), but definitely faster than all of my other paints.

Nice! Though I guess even the best of paints have their drawbacks.

It's Folk Art acrylic paint! I've used their paints before and it always turns out great...but don't order them online. For some reason there's a lot of reviews online of folk art paint coming opened and dry, but I've never found one that way in a store. I'll make another snake like this one then tell you how that goes to be sure it's good paint.
