Description And here's the devil rocker! >:3

Devil rocker sketched, inked, colored in OC4.
Background done in Photoshop with help from some stock courteousy of .

I'm not very happy with how good the background looks in general (well, I only spent about 10 minutes on it haha), but the goal of this picture wasn't really to focus on the background but the devil rocker! ^^

...and I really need to learn to draw guitars better (and faster) x_x....

I'm still alive! sorry it took me so long to take a look at this--was holidaying without internet
anyways, great outlining I reckon, and I just love the shape of the guitar! love guitars, and this one is really unique
You know, when I saw the sketch, I actually thought this would be a guy! Might have been the eyes... oh but if there was more lashes on this devil it probably would look less evil. Well, overall, pretty good work!

Egads, I don't know what I'd do without the internet over the holidays! XD Hope you had a good time!

I'm glad you like the guitar! I definitely need to work on drawing them more since this one came out a little flat looking... Ha, that's funny that you thought it was a guy from the sketch! After looking at the picture again, one thing that also exudes manliness is the broadness of the shoulders along with the slightly slender waist size. Definitely need to work on my body proportions more XD. Hmm, more eyelashes - that's an excellent idea I have a new tablet coming in the mail, and one of the first things I want to do when I get it is to draw another picture of this character. The next time around I'll be taking this feedback into account - thank you very much!!

Hehe I had a blast!
I probably wouldn't worry too much about the flatness of the guitar.. I find normal electrics pretty flat actually, considering they're only about... 10cm wide?
Wow a new tablet~ I saw your link on it; looks real pro. I want one but never really bought one. Never mind though, I don't really do much digital work.

Claymore32 In reply to Turisse [2008-02-11 03:32:12 +0000 UTC]

That's good you had a good time!

See, at least you can say that you know about thick normal electrics are... Me... well, I could benefit from walking through a guitar store XD. Although, my dad did buy me an electric guitar in college with the intentions that I would learn, but never did... So I ended up regifting it back to him since he actually knows how to play it. Hmm, maybe I should see if I can have it back XD hehe. Or at least I should go over there and try doing sketches of it... It's a pretty standard looking Fender, but still a nice guitar .

And yes! I can't wait for the tablet to get here!! I did splurge a little (ok, a lot lol XD), but I figured it would be my one last huge purchase before the baby gets here XD You should definitely try one out! The one I've used for nearly 7 years is equivalent to the lowest-end Wacom Bamboo model, and even the Bamboos are probably better than what I have. If you're thinking of giving it a shot, you should get one of those if you can spare the change - it's a ton of fun . Even if you don't do much digital work, I'd love to see what your works would look like done digitally .

I think your impression of the guitar looks good already. It's the uniqueness that makes it special! I dunno, but maybe sketching from the Fender would take off some of the supernaturalism. OK, I just got a ruler, and maybe 10cm is a bit too thick XD I'd say <7cm would be a closer shot!
Yeah, I'll definitely try a tablet someday... when I rack up the money for it! XD

Claymore32 In reply to Turisse [2008-02-11 03:52:01 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, sketching from the Fender would mainly be to get my brain thinking more along the lines of how a guitar is designed - especially since I'm not that familiar with where the frets, pickups, and strings should all be, as well as those knobs and that long pitch changer thingy.... But alas, I shall try my best to avoid picking up the generic traits and try to keep the supernaturalism that you mentioned hehe. And wow, 7 cm seems pretty thin - I didn't realize they were that thin XD

Electrics are thin, but they are so heavy... it's the solid wood I suppose.

humm crtiz ... well the only thing I see out of place is the wings. they seam on a lower cartoony scale than the rest of the pic.

but the proportions, pose and shading are great

Claymore32 In reply to diaboso [2008-01-28 19:53:07 +0000 UTC]

I had a bit of trouble on figuring out how to color the wings on her . At first I thought that maybe if I scaled them down they'd be easier to fit in, but I decided not to. This is definitely one area I still need more practice on.

oh one more thing, im a bit rusty on my anatomy but I think that the shoulders should never be wider on a girl than her hips??? but im not sure

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Claymore32 In reply to diaboso [2008-01-28 20:11:33 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, one thing I completely forgot to do was relate the hips to the shoulders. I accidentally based the relation on the boobs and torso area.... In the next picture I do of this character (since I also want to redo her guitar) I want to widen out her hips since that'll help to make her a bit sexier. It'll also make her legs look a bit more proportional to them.

Right now she has guy hips, where I think the hips are always smaller than the shoulders.... But yeah, I definitely agree with you here

@_@ Jason you gave her a boyish appearance (face and body proportions). I know you've had intimate contact with a woman before! Use those naughty memories for drawing!

(I still admire your coloring skills)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Claymore32 In reply to pukuu [2008-01-27 15:38:04 +0000 UTC]

LOL! Oh thanks!! XD Does she really look boyish?? I guess I tried to make her too lanky looking. But I do agree about the body proportions - that's what area I'm still trying to work on . But look! She has boobies! >_< They're right there!!! *points wildly and pokes the screen*

Achem... though, if she were truly a devilish creature, the chain coming down from her neck would attach to a piercing in each nipple with no cloth covering. But then I'd never be able to finish the picture @_@;;

Very nice! The design of the guitar is good, what you need to do next time is to add some depth for the guitar, because it is not a paper, you can see more from its side.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Claymore32 In reply to AdriennEcsedi [2008-01-27 15:01:33 +0000 UTC]

Ah very true! I just looked at some other drawings/pictures of electric guitars, and one thing I noticed on them was the heavier shading around the edges than what I did that helps to show off the depth more. Thanks for the pointer!

NexusDX [2008-01-27 05:58:24 +0000 UTC]

I don't know if she's just small, but the guitar comes off looking more like a 6-string bass due to the neck's length.

How long did this take you to complete?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Claymore32 In reply to NexusDX [2008-01-27 06:01:43 +0000 UTC]

You know, I may have accidentally referenced a bass instead of a guitar now that I think about it... Yup, I'm a guitar newb

Overall this took me about 6 hours.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

NexusDX In reply to Claymore32 [2008-01-27 10:26:25 +0000 UTC]

I only noticed because a friend gave me his old bass a while back (which I've since let go to waste, unfortunately), and the neck here looked too long for a guitar.

From start to finish? Nice. Might have to beg you to color something or me one day.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Claymore32 In reply to NexusDX [2008-01-27 14:58:45 +0000 UTC]

One thing I did that I think made the neck too long was I gauged the length of it after drawing out the frets. What i should have done was draw the proper length of it with respect to the girl and then draw the frets using that given length. Guess this just means I need to do another picture of a guitar .

One reason this picture went a little faster for me was I left the resolution 'small' at 1000x1000 when drawing/coloring it. Normally I up the resolution much higher so I have the ability to print it nicely if I want to. But I wasn't too concerned with that for this one, and I really didn't feel like getting super detailed with it haha x_x

Ok....your going to have to make a tutorial or expain how OC works...because I couldn't get a good grip on it....and gosh darn it I wish i had the full program!!! I like OC it was really neato...but I didn't get it for Christmas. Anyway
Love this to death! I could color like this on photoshop...but OC was very confusing, but none the less fun to work with. Only thing that might drive me insane might be her hand holding the pick, It looks right, but at the same time it looks wrong...like when you spell a word right but you stare at it for so long it's hard to tell if it's correct or not....know what I'm saying? Eh...nvrmnd Great job ^^ I loves it to death.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Claymore32 In reply to mehrakit [2008-01-27 05:50:09 +0000 UTC]

I would love to make a tutorial for using OC - if I can find the time XD. What I've always noticed while using it is I feel like I get better brush strokes out of it than Photoshop. Of course, that could be because I don't really play around with the brush settings in Photoshop XD.... Another good way to get better at OC is to watch other people draw/color their pictures via their event files (you can grab the event file for this picture here: [link] ).

And I completely agree with you about the right hand holding the guitar pick. Actually, that whole arm bothers me now that I look at it again. The elbow looks a little too high and the forearm doesn't quite match up in size compared to the other arm.... And the pick is being held between the pinky and the ring finger, which does look a little odd... Thanks for the critique! Proportions and perspective are two things I'm constantly looking to improve on (I really need to do some human model sketches x_x).

You should try to make on if you ever get the time, Even if just to explain how the brushes and things work. I was really having fun using it, and wow! I just spent 5 mins watching the link you gave me, way cool!!!

The am to me looks fine, just the hand looked a little off, I'm jealous though I can't draw things on the computer, just not skilled like that I guess

Claymore32 In reply to mehrakit [2008-01-27 15:08:09 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! You're very kind . I'm happy you enjoyed watching the event file! I should really post some of my older pictures from when I had just started coloring on the computer... Then you would see that it honestly just takes practice, practice, practice to get your skills better . However, even today I still think I sketch better with a pencil and paper than on the computer. The one main plus with the computer is the 'Undo' function - which is a godsend!

Hehe I'll be sure to do that! Maybe I'll make a journal post on all my OC event files so everyone can see where they are. ^^ Also, you should search around on that PortalGraphics website where my event files are being hosted. There's tons of great works on there that you can download and watch the artists make them .
