Description
That's not funny. That's very sad, actually. All right, this came to my mind after I talked with about the new starter PokΓ©mon and she complained about how Snivy devolves since it loses it's arms and legs. I like Serperior and I chose it as my starter, but I have to agree with Acc3a on this. Evolution is supposed to be an improvement and yet they made one where evolution actually removes something useful. That's....weird. And Serperior isn't even the only victim of mother nature's dark humour. Poor Togekiss will never be able to pick its nose again. Luckily it doesn't even have a nose.
Anyway, hope you like it.
I do not own Snivy, Togepi or their sadly disfigured evolved forms.

No, but seriously now, I have no idea what to tell them. Most art thieves don't care if you tell them to credit you. Couldn't you report them or something?

That's surprisingly funny, remembering that they once had arms and instead simply reminiscing of it. Though I can see why you say that its not entirely funny.

Snivy's my starter, too. And, yeah, you're right about the evolution thing. At least Serperior's more snake like.
Hey, wait... Aren't those dark green stubs on his body it's hands?

ClayPita In reply to LatinoManInBlack [2012-09-02 17:31:49 +0000 UTC]
I think those stubs are just leafs that serve no purpose. They're remnants of the arms it had but can't be used anymore. At least that's how I see it.

Serperior doesn't need arms. It has Vine Whip. And Togekiss can move things with Psychic. This is still hilarious, though.

Evolution simply means something is becoming more suited to its environment through natural selection; if that means losing limbs, it's still evolution.
Soo basically, your argument is invalid, but the picture is still silly and I like it. :>

Well, snakes evolved from legged ancestors. And there are some legless lizards as well. There is simply no need for legs for these creatures.

No such thing as "de-evolution" evolution is only so an organism is more suited to it's habitat, not that it grows limbs. Take whales. They evolved from land-dwelling animals and so lost their back legs for flippers, but it was more suited to the water that way.
I know you were making a joke, and i'm not trying to be critical, but I really don't like mis-information. Excellent work, though. I found it funny.

Thats not true, Evolution works in both ways, Forward and backward. It works forward as a whole, because anything that doesn't receive an evolution that benefits them will die sooner or later. Snivy and his evolutions could have devolved as easily as evolved. (It's actually more likely that any mutations that occur will be detrimental (bad) rather then benificial (good).

Traits that are beneficial (make an organism better survive in it's environment)are passed down in generations. It doesn't have to be beneficial from a human perspective (growing limbs or standing upright).
If a species passes down a trait that hampers their survival (the whole species, it is still evolution (granted they would all die out). I don't know of one creature that has ever passed a trait that would make survival harder (before you sight disease, consider what positive side effect a creature may get from it that could out-weigh the cost).
I would like you to tell me of such an organism that has ever de-evolved.
If Snivy was a real creature, it did not de-evolve. It evolved to lose it's limbs so that it was more suited to survival (I don't know how, maybe easier to catch food or something). It's ancestors would have had a mutation for smaller limbs which would have had more food and would have lived to pass down the trait of smaller limbs. This would continue until the species lost limbs entirely. It would have evolved to lose limbs, not de-evolved. De-evolving would be Snivy turning back into it's previous ancestor (Maybe a long-legged lizard thing). It's be easier to look at the middle evolution of Snivy for this metaphor to work.

It's talking about pokemon so it does make perfect sense. You don't apply real world biology to a cartoon based on magical creatures.

actually, if you take a look at the back sprite of serperior, you can see two leaf like appendages being held behind him, like he's doing a royal stance. they're probably vestigial, however.
still funny though

ClayPita In reply to legendguard [2012-09-02 17:24:39 +0000 UTC]
I know that, but exactly because they're vestigial they serve no purpose and therefore are no longer arms. At least that's how I see it.

Why didn't I look at this sooner xD? That's really funny, I have always wondered why some of them lose their arms for wings or what-not. It's pretty cruel at times XD. I know there's at least a couple more like that, but I can't think of them at the moment. Still pretty funny, though.
