Description
Pelecobalaena gigas is the largest Allocetid and is the only migratory member, heading north for seasonal bounty. They are definetly not the norm for the group. However, one similarity they do share is their sexual display. All allocetids have unusual eyes amongst cetaceans having unique cones in them allowing them to see colour. Pelecobalaena in particular use it in display. They inflate their bright red ventral pleats as a show of strength, with males who hold it the longest winning mating rights
