well, I mainly use "Detail Oils Brush" and I use the "Soft Blender Stomp" to make gradients. In this piece however, there's two layers of textures, and tons of overlays. and of course, my favorite "Glow" brush

I use Corel Painter11 to color everything I do. and the background is easily a gradient of red with a texture on top. I use a variety of brushes to come up with the best look I want; such as airbrush or scratchboard tool or detailed Oils brush.
