Thanks. If you're serious about the gradient tool thing, draw a shape you want to use the gradient tool on and use the magic wand tool on it, or just use the Lasso tool. Then choose both colors you want, select the tool, and drag.
I didn't know that when I drew this, so I used the tool on an entire layer and erased everything but his hair. It was a pain.
