Paw is Molly's partner... his father was an explorer from the PMD2 region who, for an unknown reason, left his son behind with a clan of Smeargle when he was still an egg. I'm still working on the details, but Paw was raised by them, and like most Smeargle, passed the ceremony to become a 'grown up' in his early teens, a right of passage where he received the pawprint on his back. This signified more that Paw was expected to take responsibility as a member of the clan than that he was a literal adult, a custom passed through the generations. However, much like his father, his sights were always set on the outside world, so when his adopted brother Sam ran away to become an artist, Paw went with him. Sam was rather successful as an artist for hire in Pokemon Square, but Paw's dream was always to start his own Rescue Team... unfortunately, Paw was not a leader so had trouble getting the confidence to run one on his own. That's when he met Molly... and after rescuing little Caterpie, they formed a team together.

Paw's personality is still in the works, but he's a dreamer who sets his goals really high - a little too high sometimes. He's very compassionate and wants nothing more to help others... that is why he wanted to form a rescue team, after all. He can be quite gullible and doesn't like to believe that anyone can truly be evil. He's usually very laid back and calm, but he can be easily flustered and emotional at times. He is definitely loyal and logical, as well... like I said, still in the works. I'm thinking that he tends to be a little disorganized, so he needs someone like Molly to keep him focused.

Paw likes to paint, mostly because he was raised by Smeargle and his adopted brother Sam, is a professional artist. He's not very good at it, and tends to make a mess, but it's something he enjoys so, he doesn't really care that he's bad at it. You can always tell when he's been painting cause it's all over his face afterwards.

Paw is very close to Sam, even if they aren't on a team together. He's also close to Molly, and like 'Tori, is a little protective of her. The only Pokemon he doesn't really like is Gengar (Beau), for obvious reasons, although he is quite confused by Gengar and Team Meanies as a whole. When Molly starts to grow close to him later, Paw is actually very accepting of the claims that Gengar is changing because of his forgiving and naive nature. He has a small crush on Molly.

Paw was originally going to be 'Tori's partner. When I decided to keep both Molly and 'Tori, Paw was gonna be a recruit of some kind, but I decided to cut down on characters and make him Molly's partner instead. The Smeargle idea is new... I don't get new ideas often anymore, but it's nice when I do!

Also, Paw's father is the Lucario spoken of by Alakazam when you talk to him post-game.
