Description
This is my first actual cover up. Everyone at the shop thought it looked really good. I was super excited. The poor girl had gotten some really bad lettering done from some guy tattooing out of his house. On one arm she had the word "bad", and on the other arm it said "bitch". Of course, we covered up the bitch part. We need to do one more pass and it'll be done. Professional's opinions are encouraged!Related content

The shadings a bit 'dead head', and personally I would have chosen to use a larger liner, like a loose 8 or nine. I'm going to assume that this will be a full color piece, if not I'll say that black and gray pieces are usually a no-no for coverups. Also, if you look at enough traditional work you'll see that the black shading doesn't usually occupy as much of the tattoo as it does in this piece, so look to whipping that shading out a little faster. If this is going to be a color piece, the color will be very muted once you apply it over that gray shading. it looks like you're having some difficulty getting your points to meet or picking up a line, using a larger needle grouping and working from the needle tip instead of the tube tip will help you with these. Working from the needle tip is intimidating at first but it's the way to go. You'd also probably be better off not shading the flips on a traditional rose petal, for reference on this check out Jeff Zuck, Mario Desa, or Derek Noble's stuff. Good luck!

Thanks man. That was really helpful. Most people don't take the time to comment, and I need all the help I can get. She didn't want any color, even though I tried to convince her. Honestly, I would rather work off the tip, it's a lot more controlled from what I can tell, but the boss man doesn't want me to, and I do what I'm told, pretty much. And a bigger needle grouping would have worked out better. If you wouldn't mind checking them out, I have other tattoos posted. I could use the awesomely helpful info. Thanks a lot!
