Description
Tom took a seat in the waiting room, glancing around at the bear white walls. It was crowded and noisy as many NHS hospitals were, full of injuries and crying children. He couldn’t help but crease up when people sneezed, or coughed, afraid of the germs they may be expelling.
“The supervisor will now see you Sir” the receptionist interrupted his gazing at the stain that he had found on one wall.
Tom followed the directions given by gestures of the receptionist, as she began to answer the phone. He fought the fatigue as he realised he could hardly open the heavy door into the office.
“We need files on all your surgeons.” Tom cut straight to the heart of the matter.
“Why?”
“There’s a current case that requires such information, I would appreciate it if you did not hold out on this.”
“Of course not, is there some where I can have them sent to?”
Tom passed a business card with an address over the table.
“Thank you very much.”
Tom started to leave, glad for the brief meeting and large amount of compliance as he began to climb into his car. He drove home and began making himself a cheese sandwich as he slumped onto the sofa.
His eyes jolted awake, the sound of his phone shaking his brain out of its dreamy state. He searched for it, quickly finding his offending phone under his large jacket. Trying desperately to sound business like, Tom answered it.
“We know what you tried to do Tom, I’m very sorry, but you’re off the case. As far as we’re concerned it’s solved and we can’t have you mucking that up.”
The sound of Tom’s superior shocked him; he couldn’t reply as he hung up and dropped his phone to the floor.
