Description This is the second piece in my "Lords of.." series. Each piece is about a single character who is mythic/fantasy inspired. The design for this character (Neo Madonna) had been lying around a long time but I never did anything with it until I started this series and the two ideas came together nicely. I wanted to blend some of the elements of the classic Madonna paintings into the piece by keeping it realistic and symmetrical (among others). I painted it in Photoshop off and on over the past couple of weeks.
Thanks to bobbistock here on deviantart for the photo that sparked the idea for the pose and face. [link]

The lighting is completely other worldly.

Beautiful colors and composition. I like the lighting on the face, as it looks like the illumination is coming from the book itself.

Sorry I missed your comment, just now noticed. The dust effect was made by using a custom brush that creates a batch of little dots in a scattering and random nature in different sizes in several layers. I then added a faint glow layer effect to some of the layers and adjusted the opacity of the layers to give more visual depth. The Unsharp Mask filter was run on the layers which helped sharpen the detail up.

damn, this image is extremely beautiful and the concept is so well thought out..... this is the type of thing i've wanted to do for the last few years and have had NO idea how to do it.... create a series of work that thematically linked together and was classic and not time stamped, you know? This is beautiful, i can't wait to see more of your work and of this series=]

This is a beautiful transformation from the original stock photograph.

Not doubting your originality, what parts were "painted" in as opposed to "manipulated" or "pasted"?

ClintCearley In reply to Golden-Knight [2007-09-21 13:46:22 +0000 UTC]

There was no photo manipulation or pasting, just old-fashioned art skills. All of it was painted by hand in Photoshop using standard and custom brushes (no, I didn't paint over the photo). I used the stock photo as an idea for the pose, which I changed the hands and book on and as the basis for the face. I altered the face also due to some distortion from the short camera distance from the model and I just wanted her to have a little different look. I have progression snapshots if you'd like to see them.
Thanks for coming by and I'm glad you like the piece. Cheers

Congratulations then on your skills and talent - genuine compliment.

I would be interested in the progression shots - not that I don't believe you but more to see the technical process .

I am just a humble photo-manipulator and lack the ability to paint from reference.

Beautiful work! The skin is so realistic. I love how the warm glow from the book is reflected in her face, but her chest and hands have a cool tint. Thats amazing to me.

You did a wonderful job on this!
