Description The markings of a jay (which I think extraordinary) appear to be a means of communication within the troop, or, more rightly termed "mob", as one refers to a flock of crows, for jays are corvids too. Crest down, primaries up, secondaries flared, and tail dipped, means, in the language of the mob that floods my garden at dawn, "follow me to the park," or wherever this boss wants to fly next. I never tire of watching them, because the color of blue in those feathers is a thrill to my soul.

I didn't know that. It looks more to me like he wants to bite you, though maybe because ears back and hackles raised means "back off" in dogs and cats.

Thank you, Billy. Glad you got to see it. Started writing a novel with my son, by the way. Its the story of a single F15-E flight on a mission in Afghanistan. Modeled after St. Exubury's (s.p.?) "Night Flight", which is a very good read, if you haven't read it yet. Can't think of any other way to make some $ for my grand kids, plus its fun to do something with my son, who I love an awful lot. Knew you'd be interested in the writing thing.

It could well be a female. I would sure like to know how you tell. Please teach me, if you know.

My father told me that a dark blue on a jay means it is a male, like the photo I have of one, and a lighter blue like your's means it is a female.

Such a handsome fellow, great detail in his eye, and the colors are wonderful. I can't wait until I see a Blue Jay and a Cardinal in person, someday...someday..

I hope, Rene. I thank you, I know it will be soon. My mom wants to go back to her hometown someday, Toledo, Ohio, she told me she used to see Cardinals as a kid. Talking about it is getting me so excited, I love to travel and see new things, especially animals.

You have to go and spend a couple of days driving around the grand canyon. Have you seen it yet? People go there from all over the world, and as a social experience its really cool, because people are friendly, in the awe of it. The animals are pretty tame there too. My favorite place in the country is the painted desert. Never been to New York City? Maybe you should start there. I was born there and worked there as a man. My favorite city & a great place to meet intelligent folks who like strangers.

We went to the grand canyon a long time ago, I hardly remember it. All I really remember is the hotel we stayed at, and my dad was photographing Elks in the Fall. I want to go back and take pictures, I also want to see the painted desert, too. I have never been to NYC, the farthest I've been is New Orleans, that was quite some time ago as well. It would be a great place to start, I want to visit every state, and then we'll go into Canada, such beauty there, too.
