If you understood how tantalized I am by the yellow and red and the black spots on his breast, you would know why I stand shivering as night turns to day, hoping that he comes and lands in the light. I want to drink in his shocking beauty, because that's how I thank God for this life. How very, very wealthy I am at dawn with my friend, a northern male flicker, in Kansas in winter.Related content
