That's very very kind of you to say. You're not old enough to remember National Geographic when it was just black and white and not color. The photographs had much more art to them than now, and indeed it is that memory that motivates my black and white cheetah work. Thanks a million for the comment, Tina.

No ...im only old enough to have seen them in color....but your
shots of the cheetah looks like it belongs in National Geogrphic...because
of it being in a natural environment and not zoo....and im going on an
African safari one day before I die..

Do it while you're young.

I like it, the B&W, the cheetah looking away, the depth of field and space usage. Very nice

Thank you, Bryan. Does 357 refer to a preferred cartridge load?

No problem excellent shot. Yes a cartridge, but not necessarily preferred, actually only fired 2x with 357mag. Big boom though. Preference would have to defer to application.

I'll buy that logic. Right now mine's a 145 gr. two bladed broad head or field point fired from a longbow. Not much sound.

I love this picture because of the simplicity of the black and white. The angle makes the cheetah a great focal point as well.

I myself am just stretching out into the world of black and white in my animal photography, so that's what drew me to this photo. Besides that, I love your perspective. I feel like I'm right in the grass right with the cat, which is a great feeling. I feel that that there is just the right amount of blend between the grass, cat, and background. I'm not too critical of the rule of thirds, but you've worked that too! Only suggestion that I could possibly even make and I truthfully even hesitate to mention would be a slight, very slight, more contrast so that perhaps the eyes might stand out a bit more. But I'm not even sure that's necessary. A very terrific photo and one that I wish that I had taken!!!! I admire your work here very much!

I'm certainly not an expert. When I see photos like yours, it inspires me to keep branching out....

I like it. Mostly for the expression on the cheetahs face. Cats can express a lot of "thoughts" and emotions through their looks.

OMG... Rene....
This is going to be a difficult one for me......
I LOVE THIS WORK......
BUT ..... the "framing" of the animal .... is not aesthically "correct" to my eyes.... I do not mean the texture..OK??? ... that looks perfect.... I am talking about the "size" of the texture around the animal... I am not sure if you can understand what I mean..... also... I do not know which "form/shape" would be the "ok on for my eyes"..... may be I would slightly make it a rounder shape on the bottom underneath the animal.... and not have as much framing on top....BUT...Rene... I am not sure if
1 - am expressing myself correctly
2 - you can understand what I mean
3 - whether my suggestion would work better
4 - what the right answer to your question is.... BECAUSE....
This is a stunning photo..... as I said... to my eye it just feels that the area around the animal needs to be slightly different in order to "add value" to the animal him/herself........

Thanks, Teresa. A very good response (helpful). I think the word you seek is "structure", which I have radically reduced, perhaps too much, in order to make the cat seem to "float", and thus to make it slightly disturbing to the eye. Too much, perhaps. I think I will rework the cat from scratch and see, if I have the time--I have found a nesting great horned owl, and want to see if she can be photographed.

I think the "slightly disturbing to the eye" really is something that (I would like) should be retained... because you then give the "feeling" that a possible prey of this cat would be feeling - "have I been noticed - or not"?....

STRUCTURE..............YES...Rene... that is the word.....
I am happy if I could help a little... I always feel somehow worried because sometimes I cannot express EXACTLY what I feel.... but I think we are getting along ok... and you are able to understand my meanings....

Sorry to jump into your "conversation" - I agree with most of what you were saying - but added a further comment to RenΓ© which adds (I think) something....

It adds a very important piece, and might put the photo back into the inbox.

Oh WOW RenΓ© - Yes!!!! I like - the focus is very effective - and the "intelect" is nicely on display!! It says "OK, I know you are there, I know you are doing something, I am not (too) bothered - but be careful!!! - if you disturb me I might have to come and have a few words with you..."

I really like the bokeh and the b/w. There's a bit too much foreground for my taste and I think some more contrast would be nice, but those are just suggestions; it's a great shot nonetheless.

what a wonderful capture of an amazing beauty!
I really like how the back- and foreground are melting into an almost painted surrounding.
And even more I like how that majestic animal looks as if it wouldn't care at all about everything except for his own affairs.
It's a very greatly made capture!
