Description
The female Allen's hummingbird guards her nest, which is yet empty. This perch, and the nest, is outside the nursery window of my expected granddaughter, who has herself not yet arrived. Thus we all wait, entwined in the mystery of birth.Related content

Awww I had some of these humming birds last summer! They definitely are protective over their feeders!

can you tell where it is you're shooting this?
do you have hummers year round - or should i be putting out feeders already?

This is in Marina Del Rey, in southern California. She stayed here all winter (its her first), because my daughter had a feeder out. I think that normally the Allen's migrate to Mexico. She has built two nests, and currently sits on the latter (see the next file I just uploaded). I assume that she sits on fertilized eggs. Here's hoping!
