Description
After a stressful week, I decided to just paint whatever came to mind on this tiny little scrap of foam board I had left over from some coursework. I found out that the stuff was actually pretty good to paint on, especially since it didn't curl up like other papers, making it easier to scan. (Though it was kind of hard to get it Photoshopped to even close to the original colors.)Acrylic paint on foam board, pretty much life-sized at full view

Wow foam board, that seems like something that wouldn't work out too well, especially with an acrylic medium. But it totally did! Love the purples and reds. What makes me even happier is that the flat colors aren't just a single color, you've got other colors mixed in. The subtle purple tones in the door ties it together perfectly with the figure as well as adding to the dramatic lighting. It's so easy to forget about them reflective properties of light Well done!

Hey, thanks! And yeah, I'd totally recommend you give the stuff a shot sometime. I thought it would be all slick and difficult, but the board was actually really easy to work with. Plus, since it's got a thickness to it, you can paint the edges, giving it a really cool effect if you hang it. This one's got bright orange edges, and it's interesting to walk around it and see the way the "borders" appear and disappear.

Hmm I just might...I actually have some styrofoam lying around. When I have some free time I'll try it and post the results! Won't be as good as yours, though. Painting is my ultimate kryptonite D:
Ooo I can just imagine the orange borders...bet they look really good with the hair. Too bad scanners don't capture the entire 3D experience!

No no, not Styrofoam. Styrofoam is different than foam board. Foam board has foam in the middle, but two thin layers of paper-y stuff on either side. I don't know how Styrofoam would react to paint (though darnit now I'm curious...)

Ooooohhh that makes a lot more sense actually. That's why I was wondering about the plastic medium on a plastic-y surface. Gotcha I'm a little curious too.

This sounds like a time for...SCIENCE!
...Or at least art kids pretending they can do science.

Lol! Story of our lives. We'd probably be good at making explosive things. On accident.
