Description For my AP class, my teacher wanted to to "experiment" with all these weird painting techniques and abstract compositions. This was the first one I did, though I did a few others after I started this and before I finished it. Overall I dislike it and might scrap it later, but I figure after three+ weeks of work, it deserves its 15 minutes. Feel free to tear apart, critique-wise, since it's a "learning piece" and that's what it's for.

Also, scanner screwed up a few colors. Her face is lighter and the area around the cat's a tad bit darker.

I feel bad my favorite book became my least favorite piece...

Acrylic paint (heavily watered down)

Knowing your scanner mussed up some of the coloring, it's a little hard to fairly talk about the color. As it is, somewhat increased value contrast would be appreciated - at the moment my eyes are more tempted to bounce between the cross on the tail and the non-sequitor bright portion of the left side.
Getting past that, there's a decent sense of flow in the shapes, sending you about the cat and the girl. That said, is the bottom portion past her skirt necessary? *shrug*
Also, it seems a little like you lost her neck and her head just grows straight from her torso. o_o I do like her posing, though I can't help but wonder why she wouldn't be looking at what the cat has.
Huzzah for treating acrylics as watercolors.

Thank you so much! This is *very* helpful. I'd already been chastised by my teacher for making the left side so bright (it was supposed to be the white rabbit...upside down for some reason or other, but she had me cut so much off it's hard to tell anymore...) and I'll definitely try to see that that doesn't happen again.

The reason she's not looking at anything is because I didn't plan ahead. I posed as Alice, a classmate took the picture, I drew it on the background, and only then looked for the other images. What you said makes sense, so I'll be sure plan better next time. Thanks!

Heh, sounds like you should start by making thumbnails. You know, little inch, two inch sketches to plot out what you want to do. You can knock out like ten of them in 20, thirty minutes and work on your composition much better that way. I'll get to the other two pieces now that classes are done for the day. :3

I do those for my comics, but you're right. I should do them for my paintings as well. Save me a lot of grief, I imagine.

Oh, thank you! If you ever want me to return the favor, just ask. Not sure how much help I'll be, but I can try.

:3 Quite so.

Heheh, I'll keep that in mind. Sides, anyone can tell if a piece doesn't look right <3
