Description Wolves are not the most misunderstood animals in the world.

Wolves aren't thought of as dirty, disease-carrying, baby-eating vermin.
Wolves aren't crushed just because they look "icky" with their eight eyes and eight legs.
Wolves are not purposely run over by people when they are sunning out on the road because they are considered "evil."
Wolves are not generalized as something bad regardless of how many "bad" wolves there are.
Wolves do not get caught, have their legs cut off, and then thrown back into the wild.

This does not mean I think we should all go kill some wolves. This does not mean I think wolves are evil.

This just means I think people who whine about wolves being the most misunderstood animals in the world need to get some perspective. There are a lot of people who are "Oh yeah, I totally relate to wolves, man." How many people out there relate to a spider or a rat?

Note: Yes, I know bacteria are not an animal.

I find bats, rats, and hyenas to be cool and interesting. I also believe I have a near-obsession with diseases.Β

For the second sentence, here's my proof: I own two books about diseases and have even tried to invent a fictional genus of viral hemorrhagic fevers that, ironically, are spread by canines.

I saw this stamp in your faves and had to fave it as well, because frankly I do like the animals featured in this stamp. I'm one of those people who holds an interest of animals for reasons other than they're cute, which makes me like a ton of underrated species (though I do like wolves too, I definitely prefer creatures like reptiles and spiders).

I had taken in a mouse the other day. My cat had tried to attack it but failed to hurt it, (my cat Iis a softie,) so the mouse was stunned because of it. It was just laying there struggling to breathe as it was so shocked from the near death experience. So, much to my mother's disgust, I took the little mammal inside and gave it all the necessary needs, such as food, a quiet place to calm down etc. And released it once it was better. It wasn't evil or viscous at all, even when it had recovered. It was just the adorable little mouse that needed help. I even gave the fuzzy thing a name, miniature-mousey-moo. Don't ask, I come up with some weird names.
I applaud you, my dear, for making this stamp.

I have a pet boa constrictor and she's dog-tame and super cute.
I'm getting a pet tarantula this year, and I tell people to leave spiders alone that they find.

Once I move out I'm going to start adopting retired lab rats. Rats are FANTASTIC animals but few acknowledge it.

Sharks are amazing.

I pretty much either think an animal is cute/cool or have respect for it. I find lizards adorable and sharks cool (although I would prefer to think of that from a distance) and although I am afraid of spiders I will never kill one if they are outside. I went camping this year and there was a wolf spider with an egg sack and while everyone else I was with wanted to kill it I was the only one who was telling everyone to just leave it alone. Don’t get me wrong I was nervous and twitchy because I kept getting the feeling that a spider was crawling on my back but I can’t just stomp around its home and kill it. But if that spider was in my house and stomping around my home then no mercy (as long as it’s small enough, too big and then I just freeze up). Then there’s bees, I find bumblebees SO CUTE! They’re like little balls of poofyness! And although I freak out when a bee is flying around me I still respect what it does and just find a place to hide so I don’t get stung. I also find fancy rats both cute and cool and I would get one but I have four cats that would give the poor thing a heart attack and if I got a rabbit or something my Alaskan malamute would want to eat it. I had a leopard gecko named Gordan but I think I got him when he was sick, so I’m not sure whether or not his death was my fault or not… So I’m contemplating getting another.

I try to explain to my mum that pet rats are nice and nothing like sewer rats too, but she is the type who thinks all rats are diseased. She was like "Eewww who wants a rat as a pet?" She did however say that when I get my own house, I can have whatever pet I want.

Rats eat babies? When did a rat eat a baby?

TotallyMaddHatter [2014-04-02 03:39:25 +0000 UTC]

Rats are very smart and can make great companions, I also think they are cute.
Spiders and Scorpions are very fascinating creatures, a spider can make a work of art with their webs and some of them are very pretty I also find scorpions pretty especially when they glow under a blacklight. I once kept two scorpions because the poor things had the ends of their tails cut off.
Snakes are a deadly beauty and people forget not all are poisonous, they are also not slimey.
Bacteria can be an enemy however it can also be helpful, humans have many types of helpful bacteria in our bodies. Many that can help us stay healthy.
Sharks are just amazing, they come in so many varieties and specialize in different types of hunting.Β

In short I agree very much with this stamp, many of these animals, and bacteria do not get credit where credit is due.

To religious people, snakes are sometimes associated with the devil, so they immediately go against it.
Also, snakes are seen as killers because of how they lash out if someone gets to close to them. Most people think of it as a sign of aggression.
Almost everyone forgets that they give us some of our daily cures or medicines from their venom.

GeneralSnuggles In reply to SuperFlameKitty [2014-08-08 06:17:58 +0000 UTC]

I know what you mean. My mom HATES snakes. She says that she was almost bit by three different snakes in three separate occasions in her childhood. They were: A copperhead, a rattlesnake, and a black racer. Copperheads and rattlesnakes are both venomous (especially to children), and black racers, while not venomous, can (read: CAN - means it's possible, not certain) carry diseases that can be transmitted to pets and humans (again, children are at the greatest risk). From her stories, I assume the rattlesnake was the most traumatizing, since she wound up face-to-face with it, all while it rattled it's tail and hissed at her. Considering she was still a little girl, it's not too far-fetched to assume that it screwed with her BIG TIME.

Also, she's a Christian, which doesn't help matters AT ALL....

Living in "snowbird central", I'm also embedded in churches, and attend them. Most of us are aware that even the scariest of creatures are still important to the earth and were designed meticulously by God. You'd be surprised how many snake handlers are Christians. :] We Christians are normal people. Maybe a little quirky and against the grain, but the so-called "crazy" ones are not the norm (we don't even call those people Christians). Please reconsider lumping most of us in one category next time.
