The DOF is good in this photo, the focus is also good but you need to think about the composition of the photo more. Tail being cropped off isn't a good look. I know it can be difficult because animals have a habit of moving but in the future, take the time to think about the photo you are taking.

nice depth of field and contrast of color in this one. its a good test. i would start looking at composition a bit when you shoot in the future. great job.

Nice shot, although i would've liked if the tail wasn't cropped away.
And good camera and lens, plus good choice of film.

Thanks I am pleased with the shot but I agree with you on that, it is a shame but thats what you get with a moving chicken.

You have done a really good job of manipulating the depth of field so that there is clear focus on the eyes and face, which is great technique!

Not very keen on the branches behind the chicken's head, they kinda look like they are growing out of it's head which detracts from the main subject.

But in all this is a very good film photograph, the colours and lighting is spot on!

Thank you very hard to get it in focus with a moving target who is scared of my camera.

I know what you mean, it wasnt intentional as it was just a test shot.

Thank you

The head is very crisp, which is great, making it the center of focus though it is not the center of the frame. Well done. Good to see people still using film. I think it's far more respectable than digital when people manage to pull it off

Thank you Very hard to focus a moving chicken he he.

It really is a challenge which is why I picked it up again, getting everything correct in maybe only 2 shots, rather than 10 odd with digital is hard. I still have a lot to re-learn but I am trying.

I started with film, but now switching to digital I've become extremely trigger happy. I'm going to start shooting raw photos, which take up a lot more space on my CF card so I'll have to start being more choosy.

I went to film to make me selective, not just taking everything and deleting later. I just want to focus on making better photos more often.

This has surprisingly good quality when you view it up close. I like that the background is slightly blurred. The colors are nice, they could have perhaps been a little brighter, but thats okay A little more sharpening may have been nice, but its not necessary.
I haven't seen many good pictures of chickens before, so good job

Thank you They are a pain to shoot as they move around. A photo from a test roll.

I would like some more sharpening around the legs are they are a little too blured but thats what you get with a chicken.

The photography here is really quite nice, and It's very nice that people still use analog cameras.
I love the hen itself, and the red colours, but the main problem here I think is how boring the background is. There is nothing really eye-catching or special about this photo. And maybe it's not suppoused to be, maybe it's just a snap shot, and in that case there is nothing wrong with this.
But thats just my opinion. Keep it up.

Thanks for your comment.

It pretty much was a snapshot I was just trying out my dads old OM-10, it was a test roll as I was getting used to the camera. So the shot wasn't deliberate. I went into the pen down the garden and tried to get a shot but they kept moving (as you might expect) so focus was a big problem.

I do however like how the face of that hen (called 'Twin' because we have two that look alike) turned out.

Maybe if I get more of them in next time it would be good?

Yeah, that actually might make it more difficult. Taking the shot from "they're" level of sight could also make it more interesting, instead of just shooting them from above.
